Tuesday, June 4, 2013. A visit to Purple Pear Farm. This week I was lucky enough to visit Purple Pear Farm. I have been following Kate's blog. Makes me more determined to learn more about permaculture and push myself to apply these principles even more in my own patch. What I learnt from Kate:. Chooks and Guinea pigs can be used as labourers in my garden. I can easily build cages for them and move them about the place as I need the ground worked. You can train baby ducks not to eat your vegetable plants.

Thursday, February 12, 2015. Mark has worked really hard over spring and summer with the bees. They've been given two new ' houses' . to give them shelter during the heat. These now also have shade cloth attached. this and the other one are at the back of our mandala garden on the south side of our irrigation ponds. This allows for their flight path to be uninterrupted by people working by. Here's a closer look at a swarm that flew into a shrub in our market garden. They were also successfully rehomed.

We had such a poor harvest last year due to the dry spring, but things are looking much better this year after a more gentle wet start to spring.
