The Art of Push Button Flying: What If? Flying in Low Visibility
http://pushbuttonflying.blogspot.com/2015/10/what-if-flying-in-low-visibility.html
The Art of Push Button Flying. A guide to getting the most out of your Dynon Skyview, brought to you by Abysmally Low Production Values Studios. Thursday, October 1, 2015. Flying in Low Visibility. It wasn't too very long ago that I said, and I quote, "The interesting dichotomy of the autopilot is that it makes me both a better pilot (tons of information at my finger tips and time to read it) and a worse pilot (I don't hand fly nearly as much as I used to).". Had I not added that extra gas, I still would...

Schmetterling Aviation: March 2010
http://www.schmetterlingaviation.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 27, 2010. The holes that I countersunk in the picture above are the two little ones. Those four "pressed" dimples came that way - two similar holes will enter today's story a little later. Also note the etched part number and what I assume to be a serial number - the center section is a seriously critical piece and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Van's tracks each and every one. First, I drilled down through the head using a bit two sizes smaller than the hole so I wouldn't risk enl...
Schmetterling Aviation: July 2010
http://www.schmetterlingaviation.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 21, 2010. I knew this would happen. Remember how I needed to order the fuel nipple that would pass fuel through the firewall and into the back of the gascolator because I had failed to do a complete enough inventory? Ans remember how I was missing two of the 3/8" sleeves to hold nuts onto flared 3/8" tube? Do I seem a little crabby tonight? Nothing more relaxing than twisting a nipple, I figure, so I treated myself to a little shop time. You may recall that the hole that I drilled. For th...
Schmetterling Aviation: October 2010
http://www.schmetterlingaviation.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 30, 2010. I'm a WTOS kind of guy. The first few were okay and I was able to go ahead and squeeze in the rivets. As I got to the area where the nutplates weren't sitting well, I had to enlist the aid of a third hand to hole the nutplates tight against the band as I squeezed the rivets. To the rescue. Again! They're the Coast Guard of tools, I'm telling you. Yep What's that thing they say in your line of work about reading the manual? Oh, you mean RTFM. Hmmm What's that mean? Does it seem...
Schmetterling Aviation: November 2010
http://www.schmetterlingaviation.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 28, 2010. Starting on the wings. The first thing I needed to do was verify that the spars would indeed fit in the alloted space. That coincided nicely with the first step in the plans, which was to cut apart 20 little angles of aluminum that will presumably have ribs mounted to them. As expected, the 20 aluminum angles get clecoed into place. Presumably I will be riveting them in pretty soon; it was getting dark and I needed to get back home. Saturday, November 27, 2010. As it turned out...
Schmetterling Aviation: August 2010
http://www.schmetterlingaviation.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 29, 2010. I had put it off for as long as I could. I have looked at them from every possible angle, agonized over whether or not I had them bent just. Right in all three dimensions, found other things I could do to further postpone the decision to commit to drilling them, and finally reached a conclusion: it was time to bite the bullet and match drill the longerons. There was nothing to be gained by putting it off any longer. Find what I was actually looking for. Once they're cleaned up an...

Schmetterling Aviation: A Sea Change

Saturday, August 1, 2015. 1 a striking change, as in appearance, often for the better. 2 any major transformation or alteration. 3 a transformation brought about by the sea. For the purposes of this story, we will be concentrating on definitions 2 and 3. As I think about my priorities, there is one that is inarguable: I will no longer endure Ohio winters. Well, allow me to elucidate:. That is a SeaRey. The start was inauspicious as I found myself poking my way through thick fog down in southern Ohio and ...
Schmetterling Aviation: Welcome to Schmetterling Aviation
http://www.schmetterlingaviation.com/2009/09/placeholder.html
Sunday, September 20, 2009. Welcome to Schmetterling Aviation. No, my name is not Schmetterling. (Hmm, that doesn't quite ring like "Call me Ishmael."). So what is Schmetterling Aviation? What's an RV-12," you ask? An RV-12 is the latest entry into the venerable line of homebuilt (aka 'Experimental') aircraft kits manufactured and sold by Van's Aircraft. You can learn a little bit more about the RV-12 in particular at this link. The answer to that is, unfortunately, fairly complex. Believe me, I've been ...
Schmetterling Aviation: November 2009
http://www.schmetterlingaviation.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 29, 2009. Overall, a fairly easy day to complete the horizontal stab. I know, I already said it was done. I thought that it was close enough to fudge a little, figuring that the final steps of installing the control horns and counter balance arm would be fall-off-a-log simple. The parts were all match drilled, so how could they not. I spent the rest of the day working on the RV-6 cowl and watching The Battle of Ohio. The right team won. Friday, November 27, 2009. That said, riveting on t...
Schmetterling Aviation: October 2009
http://www.schmetterlingaviation.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 31, 2009. Riveting battle won, the war proceeds apace. A comment from Wingman Ted on the topic of the ever-bending rivets stated the following:. As for your AD4 rivet, make sure you are using the right length rivet. From the picture it looks too long. When a rivet is too length it bends! Sure, Van's warns us in section 5 of the manual that there will be cases where a too long rivet is called out in the plans and may need to be shortened, but. the rivet gauge! How could it be wrong?

Create brochures or flyers in minutes
Create Flyers or Brochures in minutes. Creating a Flyer or brochure is simple enough right? That is what I thought to…. But then I noticed it was taking time to get these flyer or brochure templates created. You see, I had to constantly go back to my flyer designer which took him time. To design a new flyer template and cost me $50 bucks each and every time. Once I got the flyer design back I still had to edit the content. Now, I am no pro in adobe Photoshop or any other editing software so next,. That y...
