Bare Bulb: Latex Template
http://bbulb.blogspot.com/2011/11/latex-template.html
A blog about computer science, people who study it and all the rest. Monday, November 28, 2011. Writing a good latex template for something like a thesis or a semester report can be quite a challenge. Recently I had to start writing my first longer report in some time and thought it was time to redo my LaTeX template from scratch. I deliberately kept everything in one file, as I think that spreading your Tex over to many files can be more confusing than helpful (at least for smaller documents).

A blog about computer science, people who study it and all the rest. Sunday, June 13, 2010. In was attending ICSE 2010 conference. Aside from myself presenting a poster I was also able to have a look at a lot of great posters by fellow software engineering researchers. I took quite a lot of notes on the posters I saw and tried to spot what I liked about them and what I didn't. Now I'd like to share some of those thoughts on posters with you. First you should decide on the purpose. It is of huge importanc...

Bare Bulb: Terminal fodder
http://bbulb.blogspot.com/2011/03/terminal-fodder.html
A blog about computer science, people who study it and all the rest. Saturday, March 5, 2011. I started using Ubuntu Linux about four years ago. I remember that especially in the beginning the plethora of commands and tools which you can (and should) run in a terminal was quite overwhelming. What I needed was a good collection of important terminal commands and basic programs that an Ubuntu user should know about. Some people asked me for this collection, so here goes:. Labels: ubuntu terminal admin.

Bare Bulb: Bullet points are bad
http://bbulb.blogspot.com/2011/02/bullet-points-are-bad.html
A blog about computer science, people who study it and all the rest. Monday, February 7, 2011. Bullet points are bad. This is the first post out of a series about presentations. Speaking to people in public and telling them about your ideas is a central part of research and studying. It astonishes me how people can invest years in their research, but utterly fail at the task of presenting this research to a larger audience. When people are interrupted in the task of listening to your talk it is likely th...

A blog about computer science, people who study it and all the rest. Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Ohloh ranking is flawed. Maybe you know Ohloh. Ohloh is kind of like a social networking platform for open source projects. It keeps track of projects' repositories, commits made in them and the involved developers. It boils down to the following: Developers get a high kudo rank through. A) getting kudos from other developers on Ohloh. B) through commits they made to successful projects listed on Ohloh.
