Après plusieurs années d’interdiction de toute forme de Qi Gong par le régime communiste, la Chine fait aujourd’hui la promotion de simples exercices de santé auprès de sa population et dans les hôpitaux. C’est grâce, en bonne partie, aux moines taoïstes que la connaissance profonde du Qi aurait été maintenue vivante et pourrait encore être apprise.
