Rain | Quackademic
https://quackademic.wordpress.com/2012/11/02/rain
Just another WordPress.com site. November 2, 2012. It’s been raining. I’m not complaining–either about the real rain, which sharply nestled into my bones–or the rain (reign? It started last Friday. 8220;How was your day? 8221; I asked my husband on the phone. 8220;Oh–”. 8220;We’ll talk.”. His evasion was worrisome. “Are you fired? 8220;No.”. 8220;Well, then, it’s all good.”. But he had not been fired. He’d been. The cliche holds: when it rains it pours. And this kind of rain is good for the soul! You are...

Just another WordPress.com site. September 9, 2012. A long time ago I read a book called. Quite a Year for Plums. I remember not liking it because it seemed to be one of those books about nothing, without the. Humor to go with it. I do remember my favorite line, found on a note attached to a fan at a dumpster: “Does not oscillate.” I learned a new word, at least. Quite a Year for Plums. Bring 2 cups broth or water and 1 cup wild rice to a boil, then let simmer while the pork is in the oven. While you are...

Just another WordPress.com site. September 11, 2012. 8220;We have on file that you were diagnosed at age ten? 8220;Your insurance would like a range of blood sugars from highest to lowest.”. Yesterday is the perfect example: I woke up at 312 and was 33 a few hours later. Are you having low blood sugars in the middle of the night? I don’t know. Has your doctor had you do a trial run with the Continuous Glucose Monitor. No, but I used it before–before the sensor was small. I did not like it. Now I waitR...
Good Timing | Quackademic
https://quackademic.wordpress.com/2012/11/19/good-timing
Just another WordPress.com site. November 19, 2012. 8220;I hate my class,” I said. And I did. Poe Day. “Ulalume.” 1/2 hour of writing–surely they would have had something to say? And I am sick of being the jester/entertainer/disciplinarian/lecturer. I Do Not. Lecture. Ability to entertain and tell them what to think is what matters. And yet that is the direction this semester has gone until, in this last two weeks, I would gladly cancel class just so I would not have to feel so desperate and resentful.
Annoyed, A-Noid | Quackademic
https://quackademic.wordpress.com/2012/09/19/annoyed-a-noid
Just another WordPress.com site. September 19, 2012. Back in the 80’s Domino’s had a run of commercials involving the ‘Noid–they involved a paranoid guy-like thing channeling his inner Gumby. I was young and never really got them, and found them along the lines of PeeWee Herman–annoying. But now–now I’m getting him a bit. Paranoid that no matter how much insulin I do or how little I eat, I will have high blood sugar. My fingers twitch over my insulin pump, sometimes giving into the urge to do.

cuisine de fancy: butternut squash potstickers
http://cuisinedefancy.blogspot.com/2011/03/butternut-squash-potstickers.html
This is one of those recipes that I wouldn't even think about attempting if I found it on a blog. First, there are too many ingredients. Second, the potstickers seem time-consuming enough, and then there's also a sauce? 189; medium butternut squash. 188; c. coconut milk . 2 shallots, minced and sautéed. 3 Tb grated parmesan or asiago. Handful of roasted, salted cashews, finely chopped. 1 can coconut milk, minus ¼ c. used in filling. 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced . 1 Tb maple syrup . 189; c. water.

Ancil Nance's comments on false equivalency, guns, faith based ignorance, creationism v. evolution
Suppose you go to war, you cannot fight always; and when, after much loss on both sides and no gain on either, you cease fighting, the identical old questions.are again upon you. Abe Lincoln. Published in The Oregonian July 29, 2015. The rich are rich at the expense of the workers. Consider the economics of slavery, where wages were not paid but slaves were fed and housed. Today a worker earning less than $10 and hour is not able to clothe and feed a family and is thus a wage slave in reality. The ultra ...

Permaculture Micro-farming Atlantic Style. May 27, 2016. The eggs just keep on coming. It must be Spring with an eggsess like this! Enough with the eggs already! Quackadoodle Quilt
Saturday, January 3, 2015. In an effort to stay uber organized this year with quilting (thank you resolutions! We are on our best behavior when in comes to stacking up neat piles of cut quilt blocks. In between cleaning up Christmas decor and tidying up the sewing room we hope to pretty up these sweatshirts with a little help from paint, lace, and creativity. You can't blame us for wanting to make four new sweatshirts when the thermostat reads only 30 degrees. A heat wave :). Friday, January 2, 2015.
