Nancy's Apology: November 2004
http://nancysapology.blogspot.com/2004_11_01_archive.html
Because a life must speak. Friday, November 12, 2004. Fingers in the Pie. I have to teach firstday school tomorrow. It’ll probably be just my kids who show up. Someone else is bogged down in report cards, another family is too tired to come out, another is taking a leave of absence to deal with family matters. The others have all stopped coming because of our chronic lack of space. Sigh. Yeah, it gives a whole new spin on the idea of intelligent design! God giggling as s/he whirls the universe to expand&...

Nancy's Apology: November 2005

Because a life must speak. Tuesday, November 29, 2005. Emerging Church Idea Emerging. I had never heard of the "emerging church" until I stumbled on these blogs. Maybe it's not talked about much in Canada. Reginald Bibby's latest book Restless Churches. Talks about church renewal in Canada, but in no way is he talking about post-modern thinking. In fact, except for a couple of good quotes and some meticulous statistics on church growth/stasis in Canada, it's a bit of a yawn. Or worse, if I suggested that...

Nancy's Apology: June 2006
http://nancysapology.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Because a life must speak. Friday, June 23, 2006. Heresies is the sort of topic you blog about after someone's said something that has pi* ed you off. Like, royally. Sort of: What is wrong. With what that person just said? It pivoted on something, I just can't tell what! And it's driving me nuts! And that's the rub with heresies. Because a heresy by definition is relative. It has to be heretical to. Is usually a set of doctrines. But what about just general heresies? 1 God as Santa Claus. Enemies. Un...

Nancy's Apology: January 2006
http://nancysapology.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Because a life must speak. Tuesday, January 31, 2006. I am a Christian. I am a Christian. There, I've said it, I'm sure for the first time. Now why was it so hard to say - as if I'm at an AA meeting or something? Why do I trip over the word? Why is it scary-feeling, as if I'm letting go of my brain? After that, it became easier to face the words and ideas of Christianity. I could distinguish between the Jesus of Matthew, Mark and Luke, and the Christ of John, Paul, and others - and the FrankenGod of ...

Nancy's Apology: October 2005
http://nancysapology.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
Because a life must speak. Saturday, October 29, 2005. Today I had some time to pass till my favourite kids’ consignment store opened (who opens at 10:30? So I browsed in the Christian bookstore next door. The sign over the door reads: When we serve you, we serve Him. Yikes. I did a double-take and flipped back again to check. But it was true - the life and teachings of Jesus were missing. Then she gave me a convoluted theological justification that basically said the teachings of Jesus were not all that...

Nancy's Apology: April 2006
http://nancysapology.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Because a life must speak. Monday, April 24, 2006. Me and My Big Mouth. In a moment or weakness or enthusiasm, I volunteered. Mental note in the future to bring duct tape to MM to fasten my hands to the chair). So now I have to find something to read so that I can be prepared to lead something. I've given it a bit of thought (emphasis on bit. But can anyone of you of the great Quaker Literati suggest anything else? It has to be a book I can get my hands on relatively quickly. Yeah, me and my big mouth.

Nancy's Apology: May 2006
http://nancysapology.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Because a life must speak. Sunday, May 28, 2006. Two months ago, Kwakersaur posted a link to an organization I'd never heard of - Every Church a Peace Church. Two months ago, also, Tom Fox died in Iraq for asserting pacifist beliefs in a war situation. At the same time, while many churches openly supported the peace effort, too many condemned it. I was dismayed at the lack of peace orientation in Christian churches. Tom's giving of his life made me consider becoming more assertively pacifist. So I cut-an...

Nancy's Apology: March 2006
http://nancysapology.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Because a life must speak. Thursday, March 23, 2006. Dear Holy Father of the Roman Catholic Church. It has been several days now since the death of Tom Fox, one of the four Christian Peacemakers abducted in Iraq last year. In many parts of the world, Christians have grieved his death and have worried about the fate of the other three Christian hostages. They, like me, have been awed and humbled by their powerful example of the spirit of Jesus. Please reflect on the spirit of this message. Thank you.

Nancy's Apology: December 2005
http://nancysapology.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Because a life must speak. Tuesday, December 27, 2005. As we in Canada slink our way toward a completely unwanted, gloriously stupid national election in January and are (yawn) going through the motions of party support and door-to-door campaigns (BYOS, bring your own snowshovel), the mind naturally wanders to thoughts about how we can do things better. If you have no voice, you will do almost anything to get one. If this theory is true, then it can apply equally well to the Middle East. Christmas Eve is...
