CYO Conductor, Mairearad Bushnell-Wye first studied music at Napier College in Edinburgh before going on to study at the Royal College of Music. She graduated in 1982 with an honours degree and an A.R.C.M. in clarinet teaching and continued at the College for a further year of advanced performing study. The Cheshire Youth Orchestra was founded in 1959 by the Advisor for Music and Drama, R.G. Carter. The CYO began with a residential course at Alsager Teacher Training College in 1959, followed by regular Saturday rehearsals at Crewe Teacher Training College, which had more suitable transport links. In 1994 the format was altered to that of the present day. We have adopted the following consitution:. The Friends of the Cheshire Youth Orchestras. The Association shall be known as The Friends of the Cheshire Youth Orchestras ( the Friends ). The objectives of the Friends will be:. To assist with the running of the orchestras at concerts and rehearsals as agreed with the Orchestral Directors of the Cheshire Youth Orchestra and Cheshire Youth Training Orchestra ( the orchestras ). To raise funds to support the orchestras on tours and other orchestral events.

It is our great pleasure to announce a proposed joint tour to Barcelona for the Vale Royal Senior Band and the Cheshire Youth Orchestra in July 2017.
