Quartersawn

Believe me, that was a happy age, before the days of architects, before the days of builders. - Lucius Annaeus Seneca. Thursday, January 26, 2006. When we peeled the drywall off of this ceiling, a flood of brackish water poured out of the space and into the tub. Not good. Looking up, into the space, we could see the plumbing for the upstairs clawfoot. Every galvanized joint was rotten and thick black stains ran the entire length of pipe. Pay dirt. Believe me, that was a happy age, before the days of architects, before the days of builders. - Lucius Annaeus Seneca. Wednesday, January 25, 2006. After a brief call to the selling realtor, we had our first walkthrough. The previous owner's previous owner had converted her to sorority apartments and she looked the part. Rippled plaster, 80's entry with 90's French doors, hack-job bathroom and kitchen, apartment style closets.what is that big black box glued to the fireplace? Now I don't know about you, ...

Believe me, that was a happy age, before the days of architects, before the days of builders. - Lucius Annaeus Seneca. Thursday, January 26, 2006. So, we started talking bathroom repair. The bathtub was a blue thing of unknown vintage. Kicking the side gave a hollow sort of "plasticky" sound, leading us to believe that it was a tub cover. Standing in the tub was like standing on a waterbed. The floor of the tub was completely malleable. What the heck is that about? Posted by Haust at 11:47 AM.

Titus House: February 2007

http://titushouse.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

A new adventure of historic proportions in a modern world. Wednesday, February 07, 2007. How on earth does one get motivation. To fix/build/mend/repair their homes. when they have lost it? I have builders block! I had all these dreams of moving in and working on it. And that lasted for about 8 months. Then all sort of subtleties that influenced a massively brutal stop to anything getting done. We had that massive storm that kicked out some windows in the attic. Links to this post. Titus House: February 2006

http://titushouse.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html

A new adventure of historic proportions in a modern world. Sunday, February 26, 2006. My pretend root cellar. Under another side of the addition I find things like this. I imagine it to be a root cellar. But that may just be my wishes that life were like "life on the farm" as in the Wizard of Oz. But that is just my imaginings because I am pretty certain it is the service entrance to the basement as I can see stairs that would be directly under the addition from the basement that lead in this direction.

A new adventure of historic proportions in a modern world. Saturday, April 21, 2007. Is this a museum? Today, we had some visitors do that, though they were regaled by me in a sickly wonder and forced to shush because Squink was asleep right near the front door. Hi to those visitors! I guess we will be getting a sign (or two or three) that reads "This is a personal residence.". Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Is this a museum? Reminders of how lazy we are:. Titus House: November 2005

http://titushouse.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html

A new adventure of historic proportions in a modern world. Sunday, November 20, 2005. Here is a great picture of the newly painted gold crown molding. We looked at possibly stripping it too, but it had a horrendous dark brown paint and so we decided to complement the colors we used in the room. I must say that it looks lovely. Links to this post. Thursday, November 17, 2005. Well, at least the wine wasn't awful. We have most of the living room primed and ready. I am just so darn excited about this. Now w...

A new adventure of historic proportions in a modern world. Sunday, September 03, 2006. Ghosts in the attic or the attic window (front). The attic window (front). Originally uploaded by Blair Necessities. We had five trees down, three we could save. no power for a day and I was sick sick sick through the whole freaking ordeal to boot. A new adventure of historic proportions in a modern world. Wednesday, December 27, 2006. Titus House in lights. It still looks fabulous from the outside. inside is slowly coming around. Great points. That, my friend, is a really important point. Unless you’re a contractor, it’s hard to make sure you don’t get ripped off when you bring in a remodeler to fix up your home. What do you do if you’re cost conscious about a remodeling project, but don’t know what to do? Friday, January 19, 2007 1:43:00 AM.
