My infinity is bigger than yours! | Casual Calculations
https://casualcalculations.wordpress.com/2013/04/20/my-infinity-is-bigger-than-yours
Some interesting maths and random calculations; occasionally the intersection of the two. My infinity is bigger than yours! April 20, 2013. Warning: Attempt at explaining some real mathematics here! A common exchange between young children:. Child 1: My blank. Is better than yours! Child 2: Nuh uh! Mine’s twice as good! Child 1: Mine’s 100 times as good as yours! Child 2: Well mine’s infinity times better! Child 1: Oh yeah? Well mine’s infinity plus one better than yours! And we use the symbol. Congratul...

Black holes without a singularity | Casual Calculations
https://casualcalculations.wordpress.com/2014/02/28/black-holes-without-a-singularity
Some interesting maths and random calculations; occasionally the intersection of the two. Black holes without a singularity. February 28, 2014. I know I’ve been too busy to post anything here for a while now, but I came across something recently that I found so cool that I had to share it. Usual disclaimer: This is a very handwavey explanation. Obviously you’ve spotted the contradiction to Fermat’s last theorem. There too, right? As I mentioned above, this kind of black hole is a perfectly valid solution...

Abbott’s Cabinet: What’re the chances? | Casual Calculations
https://casualcalculations.wordpress.com/2013/09/26/abbotts-cabinet-whatre-the-chances
Some interesting maths and random calculations; occasionally the intersection of the two. Abbott’s Cabinet: What’re the chances? September 26, 2013. I slipped and fell into politics. I don’t normally care about politics, but recent events have forced me to. I won’t complain (directly) about all of the terrible decisions by the new government; we’ll just back up some arguments with some basic math. Recently Tony Abbott. Which contains 18 men and 1 woman. Abbott is already well-known for his misogyny.

Stupidly measuring stupid – how stupid! | Casual Calculations
https://casualcalculations.wordpress.com/2013/07/19/stupidly-measuring-stupid-how-stupid
Some interesting maths and random calculations; occasionally the intersection of the two. Australian Academy of Science. Stupidly measuring stupid – how stupid! July 19, 2013. The other day, the Australian Academy of Science released a report. On science literacy in Australian. I’ll save you the effort of reading in its entirety and sum it up for you; we suck! In the above; if I were to guess that the Earth is covered in around 71% water, I would be wrong. You can get f&*$#d – you’re wrong! You are comme...

Dead Mathematicians Society | Casual Calculations
https://casualcalculations.wordpress.com/2013/08/21/dead-mathematicians-society
Some interesting maths and random calculations; occasionally the intersection of the two. August 21, 2013. Watching Robin Williams talk about poetry in Dead Poets Society reminded me of A Mathematician’s Lament. By Paul Lockhart — yes, I. Already linked to this once before. I want to make all pure maths students watch it, and replace “poetry” with “mathematics” throughout. Or do they think that this is somehow “useful math” for the real world? You can read it for free from Google here. Euclid is one of o...

Aries and Obstetrics | Casual Calculations
https://casualcalculations.wordpress.com/2013/05/03/aries-and-obstetrics
Some interesting maths and random calculations; occasionally the intersection of the two. May 3, 2013. Somehow it took it until yesterday for me to come across this amazing video. If you are yet to see it, watch it now. With this fresh in my mind, I remembered a simple calculation from when I first learnt about Fermi problems. What detectable effect does the position of Jupiter. Have on people here on Earth? We know it’s gravity that keeps us from floating into space, not electromagnet-boots! So let̵...

A real theorem! | Casual Calculations
https://casualcalculations.wordpress.com/2013/04/17/a-real-theorem
Some interesting maths and random calculations; occasionally the intersection of the two. April 17, 2013. Today, you too get to learn what my real analysis students are doing in class. The intermediate value theorem is a result in pure mathematics that is extremely intuitive. If f is a real-valued continuous function on the interval [a, b], and u is a number between f(a) and f(b), then there is a c [a, b] such that f(c) = u . See, that’s the most intuitive thing you’ve ever seen, right? We know this temp...

Probabability Paradox* — part 2 | Casual Calculations
https://casualcalculations.wordpress.com/2013/08/27/probabability-paradox-part-2
Some interesting maths and random calculations; occasionally the intersection of the two. Probabability Paradox* — part 2. August 27, 2013. You may see this title and immediately think that this is the second part of a two part post; you’d be wrong. This title is an example where intuition can be wrong — or an example of sneaky buggery. Or something? Not actually a paradox. First let’s look at a simple problem. How stupidly simple does this problem sound? Probability is far too sneaky for that. Or the ol...

New Free Game for Android. You command two space ships in the middle of an asteroid field and must do all you can to keep them alive. Prevent your ships from being destroyed by following them with your fingers on your touch screen. Be careful, when you remove your fingers the shields go down and you can be destroyed by an asteroid! As your ships move, their mass decreases so that they begin to move and bounce faster and faster. Your goal is to stay alive as long as possible.

You cant swim, you cant dance, and you dont know karate. Face it, youre never gonna make it. Upgrade to paid account! WWE ramblings and YouTube links. I love reading peoples meme prompts. Case in point, reading through the Sherlock BBC kink meme, Ive seen two references to Mrs. Hudsons couple next door. One was asking that the couple be House/Wilson. The other asking that it be Kirk/Spock. LMAO. I love you fandom. I have become immersed in a new fandom, Psych (. Sixx AM - Lies of the Beautiful People.
