Queering the Feminist Lens: Queer Fatigue

http://queeringthefeminist.blogspot.com/2011/04/queer-fatigue.html

Queering the Feminist Lens. Growing in the intersection of identity. Monday, April 18, 2011. I am so tired of being queer. I am so tired of being a feminist. I am so tired of having to fight for rights that I should always have. I'm tired of doing trainings on LGBT bullying and oppression. I'm tired. And I'm angry. I'm angry that threre is a need for me to be a queer feminist activist. What exactly am I fighting for that isn't a basic human right? What am I missing here? April 18, 2011 at 6:06 PM.

Queering the Feminist Lens. Growing in the intersection of identity. Sunday, May 8, 2011. Why My Mom is a Super Hero: Barbie Dolls, Disney Princesses, and Mainstream Beauty Ideals. My mom is my hero. To most people who know me, this might be a surprising statement. She often gets lumped into the generalized statement, "my conservative parents who I almost always disagree with." When ranting, I often over simplify, my mom is actually really awesome. Here's why:. From Snow White to Sleeping Beauty, the pri...

Queering the Feminist Lens. Growing in the intersection of identity. Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Vote With Your Money, Honey. So, most monday nights I go to a local gay night club for their weekly Ru Paul's Drag Race. One would think that Absolut, or any other company that advertises on LGBT oriented television is gay friendly, right? Do they love the gays, or our wallets? Most people think that Coors is apologizing for being anti-gay back around stonewall. Back then, we really were a movement, and we...

Queering the Feminist Lens. Growing in the intersection of identity. Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Queering Anorexia Nervosa and Domestic Violence: Lasting Impact. Experiences with interpersonal violence impact the survivor for the rest of their life. Eating Disorders (not to be confused with disordered eating) are a lot like alcoholism, the individual with the disorder may be functional but they will always struggle with the disorder. It's an addiction to control. And that's a huge problem, isn't it? Well, b...

Live-Blogging Eurovision 2011 – Part 1. May 14, 2011. I can’t believe that I’ve got a blog old enough to be doing an annual blogging event. This year my partner in crime is sadly across the country but you can keep up with her comments here. She actually knows stuff about music so her coverage will probably be better. I remember that girl being more gothy last year. Lena is it? Anyway, my lasagne is getting cold and my Pimms is getting warm so I’m going to dive right in with Bosnia and Herzegovina. I lov...

Larr; I’ve Moved! Yet Another Post About Slutwalk (As If You Haven’t Had Enough Already). Reclaim the Night v. Slutwalk. June 1, 2011. I wrote yesterday about why I will be going on Slutwalk on June 11. I don’t have the answer as to why Slutwalk has taken off in a way that Reclaim the Night didn’t, I’d love to hear your thoughts too. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Conflict About The Gaze. March 30, 2011. Being a Gender Studies geek with a lot of train journeys to go on, I’ve recently been enjoying the ‘Beyond Masculinity’. Podcasted essays from 2008. The essay that has so far stood out to me is ‘ Gays and the Gaze’ by Hammad Ahmed. Ahmed goes into detail about the various theories surrounding the gaze and why they do not apply to his experience as a queer South-Asian-American man, and it’s a very interesting listen and certainly provoked some thought from me.

Don’t Judge My Family. April 30, 2010. This is an AMAZING campaign based on David Cameron’s proposed ‘married couple’s tax allowance’. If I ever needed another excuse to NOT vote Tory, this would be it. JK Rowling has written about how it actually penalises the people who need the money the most. And moreover, who is going to stay married for the sake of 150? I mean, come on? And you just know, given the Tory’s voting rate on gay rights. Trying to govern people’s private lives, especially now we li...

I can’t be a feminist blogger…. April 29, 2011. 8230; because I haven’t done a Women’s Studies class. 8230; because I haven’t read Judith Butler. 8230; because I’ve never been on a march. 8230; because I believe in feminist porn. 8230; because I like to wear high heels and short skirts. I know in my head that the reasons above don’t exempt me from being a feminist. I believe very strongly in feminist ideals and try to live a feminist life, and that surely is enough? Reclaim the Night v. Slutwalk. June 1, 2011. I wrote yesterday about why I will be going on Slutwalk on June 11. In London, hopefully with lots of people from the RHUL Feminist Society, even though we may all be hungover from celebrating the end of term the night before. But I wanted to think a bit about why Slutwalk has taken off so massively, and is more appealing to many young women (and people of all ages, sizes, colours, creeds, genders) than Reclaim the Night. I'm Amy Elizabeth and this is my blog.

What She Said #4. May 31, 2010. From the fbomb again. Two of the more socially acceptable, yet idiotic, terms are Pro-Life and Pro-Abortion. Let me just say this: is anyone PRO abortion? Who seriously sits around and is like, You know what’s awesomeABORTION! I think EVERYONE should get one! Anti-choice would be the more appropriate ones, because they are the ones that truly describe the two sides of the debate. So now we’re victim blaming 8 year olds? May 31, 2010. I was reminded of this case. Today when...

I thought you might like to know that I used the voting time to get an ice lolly. And to turn off my netbook charger, it’s important to save the planet people so that we can continue to enjoy such beauty as the Eurovision song contest. Anyway, here’s a quick fire round up of the voting:. Russia loves UK and Moldova! Takes us to no 1!

Queering the Casebook Project. Welcome to Queering the Casebook. Some information about the project. For those of us who care about these issues, however, we face twin dangers: the ghettoization of matters of LGBTQ concern to specialty courses, and inattention to the way such matters are handled in mainstream doctrinal casebooks and courses (and hence, in the classrooms where those materials are used). In the latest installment of my being a huge hippie… I also made my own deodorant. Does it really cause alzheimers? I’m a skeptical, moderate hippie. It actually works really well, lasts through workouts and stuff, and smells nice: my first great experience with aluminum-free deodorant! I was super excited.
