These pictures were taken during my second trip to Rainbow Falls in Jones Gap State Park. This is a good place to stop on the way up. Here's a view of our trail stop from the other direction. Looking up at the top of the waterfall from below, you can get a small idea of the grand scope of the falls. It wasn't always easy to get a picture of the waterfall without other people in the shot, but I managed. The waterfall is so high, it's hard to get the whole thing in the frame. Table Rock State Park. Busy Day on the Rock. Sunday, April 19. On the first weekend of April, I decided to head up to the Table Rock. Summit again. Last time, it was in the middle of autumn, but this time, spring was just starting to make itself felt. So, the foliage wasn't as lush as before, and the weather still had a little bit of a chill in it. This 3.5 mile hike up the mountain is relatively challenging, although the downward trip is a bit more taxing on my aging knees. Table Rock State Park.

Sourwood Trail II | Quercus Ilicifolia

I returned to the Sourwood Trail. In the late fall of 2014. These pictures were taken of the trail going the direction opposite from last time. The trail starts out on a gravel road. As before, the trail was heavy with foliage. A view of the surrounding mountains from a hill. I saw a few large shelf mushrooms on a fallen log. The trail continues on through the trees. Nancytown Falls looked simliar to the last time, even though it was fall. Here's a close-up of the base of the waterfall.
