Quill-squeak: September 2010
http://quillsqueak.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
History, Religion, Stories and the Arts. Friday, September 24, 2010. The Painted Donkey that thinks its a Zebra. Self deception is the worst kind of deception. We deceive ourselves regarding one thing or another. The best lies we like to believe are those about ourselves. Sometimes we recognise the lie and sometimes, we don't even know it. I am not sure which is worse. To westlands, hurligham or githurai. A long term missionary was once venting in my presence about something that her security guard had d...
Quill-squeak: June 2010
http://quillsqueak.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
History, Religion, Stories and the Arts. Thursday, June 3, 2010. Celibacy: Curse, Choice, Gift or all three? Now, in this post, I will be breaking rules I set up on subjects I will post here (criteria being impersonal/ responsive posts) and on the subjects I can talk about with Christians. Celibacy is one of those topics that I rarely talk about with people and especially Christians. Why? Is celibacy a curse, a choice, a gift, any of these or all of these? Is that weird, wrong? With everyone around us ge...
Quill-squeak: August 2010
http://quillsqueak.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
History, Religion, Stories and the Arts. Friday, August 13, 2010. For one on break, I have spent precious few days in my own house. Not that am complaining seeing as I have been house bound as a direct result of school. I set out to revive what's left of my pre-seminary friendship network and actually participate in some kind of ministry these last six weeks. Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Except that Joe does not know what Pipa's middle name, her favourite colour or what her pet peeves are. In fact he d...

A Bloke in Kenya: A tale of minor corruption, Kadhi courts and another Mbiti link
http://ablokeinkenya.blogspot.com/2010/05/tale-of-minor-corruption-kadhi-courts.html
A Bloke in Kenya. Thoughts and observations of a bloke living in Kenya. A tale of minor corruption, Kadhi courts and another Mbiti link. Incidentally, different ministries seem to have different reputations. She said the treasury, who she is dealing with, is the worst. But if you have all your papers in order, immigration seems to work well with no money changing hands. Good for them! Yesterday the high court. Proclaimed that Kadhi courts are illegal. It's long, but that's because there was a lot to say.
A Bloke in Kenya: A Day of Disappointment in England, but something a little more serious elsewhere.
http://ablokeinkenya.blogspot.com/2010/12/day-of-disappointment-in-england-but.html
A Bloke in Kenya. Thoughts and observations of a bloke living in Kenya. A Day of Disappointment in England, but something a little more serious elsewhere. Well, England didn't get the 2018 World Cup. I was thinking of writing something before the result of that vote came out, when there was still some tension, but it's a bit late for that now. Not a good sign for democracy, maybe not as bad as the closure of the borders, and the fatal attack on some of Ouattara's supporters yesterday. Anyway, football in...
A Bloke in Kenya: The Rhino Charge
http://ablokeinkenya.blogspot.com/2010/06/rhino-charge.html
A Bloke in Kenya. Thoughts and observations of a bloke living in Kenya. Well, yesterday was the Madaraka (autonomy rather than independence) holiday here in Kenya, and the day before was the annual Rhino Charge. People quickly gathered round, changed my wheel for me, and carried the roof-rack up to the campsite. A real team spirit. I hope to post photos later - that would be a first! 5 June 2010 at 00:40. 6 June 2010 at 20:03. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). There was an error in this gadget. I still...
A Bloke in Kenya: Some Rhino Charge Pictures

A Bloke in Kenya. Thoughts and observations of a bloke living in Kenya. Some Rhino Charge Pictures. Some vehicles didn't want to drive there. Below are Team 38, who went on to win, and who started and finished at our checkpoint. And off they go! The guys on the back mainly act as scouts to find viable ways through the bush. Things tended to go wrong with the cars. All for now. I'll post some more soon! 6 September 2016 at 20:26. 16 September 2016 at 22:00. This comment has been removed by the author.
A Bloke in Kenya: Things I'm noticing about life in the UK
http://ablokeinkenya.blogspot.com/2010/08/things-im-noticing-about-life-in-uk.html
A Bloke in Kenya. Thoughts and observations of a bloke living in Kenya. Things I'm noticing about life in the UK. Another less profound thing that I've been noticing is the amazing lack of insects in the house. Just hardly any (though there's a fly buzzing around this morning). A few things have changed while we've been away - for the first time I've topped up a phone at the cashpoint, and unblocked a pin number. Cool. Faster internet. BBC iPlayer. Is totally wonderful. Thank you BBC, we love you! Northe...

A Bloke in Kenya. Thoughts and observations of a bloke living in Kenya. The other night a friend commented that they weren't sure what difference it would make whether Labour or the Conservatives won the upcoming UK general election. Sleeping through Gunfire, Waking up in Rain. It's been raining through the night, so I'm awake a little earlier than normal. The sound of the rain on the tin roof isn't exactly deafening, but it often wakes me up. Has written a thoughtful piece. On wider issues of politics a...

A Bloke in Kenya. Thoughts and observations of a bloke living in Kenya. Why I love Kenyan English ('Hellos everyone'). Rather good piece in today's Nation. Archbishop Tutu is on record as saying that the truth hurts. If that is so, it has started paining rather too soon for the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission – and those who want to see this nation heal in their lifetime.". Notice anything Kenyan, not standard British or American English? Is just as good as. Co-authored by Vic Webb). And som...

http://ablokeinkenya.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
A Bloke in Kenya. Thoughts and observations of a bloke living in Kenya. Avoiding sharks and elephants. A few days ago, a report of another bloke getting killed by a shark. In South Africa hit the international press. When I checked it up, I became more impacted by the story than I had been; it happened in Fish Hoek. But more chilling was a report that didn't get the same level of attention, of an American tourist and her one-year-old being trampled to death. Life is fragile. But it still needs to be ...

Wednesday, 27 June 2012. Skirt: CBS, Sandals: Shoe Boutique, Bag: Gift, Vest: M&S, Belt: Pound shop. My outfit today was inspired by a necklace I bought on my last trip to Ghana. It made me feel all tribal. I remembered the skirt suit that I got from CBS a while ago. I wore the shirt to go with it here. To bring the the look up todate I hand sewed the front of the skirt to make it shorter than the back. Links to this post. Tuesday, 26 June 2012. Links to this post. Monday, 25 June 2012.
