Quilting on the Crescent

New Orleans House Project. Antique Sewing Machine Trade Cards. Saturday, August 15, 2015. RSC 15: Indigo Scrap Jar Star. Since this month's color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is Indigo - I made an Indigo Scrap Jar Star from reproduction fabrics. The SJS completely changes personality when placed on the diagonal, eh? I have lots of new reproduction fabric scraps because I've been participating in Barbara Brackman's Stars in a Time Warp BOW. At Angela's Soscrappy blog. Thursday, August 13, 2015. I made ...

Quilting on the Crescent: Slow Sunday Stitching: Practicing a New Applique Technique

http://quiltingcrescent.blogspot.com/2015/08/slow-sunday-stitching-practicing-new.html

New Orleans House Project. Antique Sewing Machine Trade Cards. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Slow Sunday Stitching: Practicing a New Applique Technique. Since starting work on my Eagle Quilt. I had heard about an applique technique known as back-basting, so when my LQS. Offered a back-basting class I decided to take the plunge. Class participants were encouraged to get a copy of Back-Basting Applique Step by Step. I've been enjoying some Slow Sunday Stitching today as I attempt to improve my back-basting skill...

Quilting on the Crescent: Let's Do the Time Warp Again!

http://quiltingcrescent.blogspot.com/2015/03/lets-do-time-warp-again.html

New Orleans House Project. Antique Sewing Machine Trade Cards. Sunday, March 29, 2015. Let's Do the Time Warp Again! Obviously, resistance is futile! I especially liked the idea of making 4" stars (instead of the QAL's 6" stars) as shared by Barb of Fun with Barb. I jumped in and started making blocks yesterday, trying to catch up. Making these blocks in the 4" size is kind of like eating potato chips - one is not enough! Block Center: cut 1 2 1/2. Flying Geese Wings: cut 4 1 7/8" squares. Use the Flying...

Quilting on the Crescent: Throwback Thursday: School Days

http://quiltingcrescent.blogspot.com/2015/08/throwback-thursday-school-days.html

New Orleans House Project. Antique Sewing Machine Trade Cards. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Throwback Thursday: School Days. I made a number of quilts as teacher gifts, but I only have photographs of two of them, both from the 1995 school year. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago! I made a similar quilt for my oldest son's second grade teacher. Same pre-cut 100% cotton squares, but this time I had the kids draw a self-portrait using fabric crayons. When we moved to New Orleans I lost touch with most of t...

Quilt Like An Eagle. Join our Eagle Quilt Challenge! A year long QAL dedicated to creating the eagle quilt some of us have never quite gotten around to making. Check out our Pinterest boards! Friday, July 3, 2015. Eagles on the Brain. Since I've been working on my Quilt Like An Eagle quilt, I have become much more conscious of eagles as decorative symbols in the world around me. I spied this eagle on a bank's after-hours depository. I purchased some French General Rue Indiennes fabric for the outer borde...

Friday, January 16, 2015. Eagle - Still on the Menu! Howdy, Eagle Quilters! It's been some time since we've chatted about eagle quilts. I chose to simplify the background again. I simply pieced three strips. I added the applique, then trimmed the background to the correct size. I made two of these. Still enjoying every block of this quilt. Especially enjoying following along with the facebook group and seeing every one else's progress! Karen in Breezy Point.
