Quilt Lit

Welcome to Quilt Lit. Saturday, April 15, 2006. Math and quilting share a common attribute of incremental growth. Just as math builds concept upon concept, quilting does the same with fabric-taking little pieces and building an entire quilt. I discovered this on my own, how many others never do? How would our children's comprehension and facility with math improve, if they were taught this subject in a way that had meaning? Posted by Karen @ 8:23 AM. Saturday, April 08, 2006. Welcome to Quilt Lit. Saturday, April 08, 2006. Patchwork Pieces of Life. Love in a Mist. Rocky Road to Kansas. Hole in the Barn Door. House on the Hill. Goose in the Pond. Quilt Lit: Advice to a New Quilter

http://www.quiltlit.blogspot.com/2006/04/advice-to-new-quilter.html

Welcome to Quilt Lit. Saturday, April 08, 2006. Advice to a New Quilter. Stock up on bandaids first; you will need them. You can remove blood from a quilt with spit. Reproduction prints are available for those of you in love with the 30s. You can never have too much fabric. Rotary cutters like to make swooping curves; keep them on a tight rein. Don't ever, ever leave your cutting mat in the car on a hot day. Learn to handpiece; it builds character. The fluffier the bat; the more difficult the quilting.

Quilt Lit: Quote of the Day

http://www.quiltlit.blogspot.com/2006/04/quote-of-day.html

Welcome to Quilt Lit. Saturday, April 08, 2006. Quote of the Day. One of those who listened to us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a dealer in fabrics dyed in purple. She was [already] a worshiper of God, and the Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul. Posted by Karen @ 11:39 AM. The Cranky Quilter: November 2010

http://thecrankyquilter.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 29, 2010. I Just Got Back From Vacation So Why Am I So Tired? Yesterday afternoon we got back from a short trip up the California coast. We usually try to get away after Thanksgiving for a couple of days, it's a great way to get ready for the holiday season, and by the time Thanksgiving is over, I'm ready for a break! The holiday went well. Dinner was on the table on schedule. We survived the famous "crunch time," (when everything has to be ready at the same time! Saturday morning we too...

The Cranky Quilter: October 2010

http://thecrankyquilter.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 22, 2010. Wednesday was a sad day. my faithful, fully-loaded, hardworking computer died an untimely death. It got infected with some killer virus and could not be revived. The computer repair guy was honest with me; he might be able to fix it but he couldn't guarantee it and it would cost about half what a new computer would cost. There was one interesting development, and you may want to pass this on. Turns out that he has a Vitamin D deficiency. Turns out this is becoming more common am...

The Cranky Quilter: Why No Postings?

http://thecrankyquilter.blogspot.com/2011/02/why-no-postings.html

Thursday, February 17, 2011. Yes, once again I must be chastised for not posting more often. I was doing so well there for a while but as is usually the case, things got away from me and I've neglected you guys. Sorry! I wish I could say I was on a cruise, or had just won the lottery, but it's just plain old day-to-day life that's been keeping me busy. I was sick for so long, (I still have the stupid cough! Anyway, I just wanted to check in to let you know that I'm still alive and kind of kicking, (I'd b...

The Cranky Quilter: July 2010

http://thecrankyquilter.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 31, 2010. Funky Fun with Purchased Embellishments. This is one funky, fun kitty! As you've probably gathered from previous posts, I'll use just about anything to embellish my quilts. Recently I've noticed a lot of improvement in what's available in the big chain stores. The square above is from the quilt I'm currently working on, (and close to finishing.whoopie! The interior border is embroidered in a combo of chain and satin stitch, just to give it a little texture, and the two floral but...

The Cranky Quilter: Farm Stand Fabrics

http://thecrankyquilter.blogspot.com/2011/05/farm-stand-fabrics.html

Friday, May 20, 2011. I'm usually attracted to more modern looking fabrics so I was surprised at how excited I was when I saw this line of fabrics from Lakehouse. Holly Holderman has perfected the art of creating cute calicoes, dots, and other small patterns that can be used in all different kinds of quilts. The farmstands are starting to open up in our part of the country this week, (it's cherry season! To get your fix, follow this link, or check your local quilt shop. These are really beautiful! Im in ...

The Cranky Quilter: April 2011

Saturday, April 30, 2011. My Quilting and Posting Moratorium. Wow, it's officially one month since my last post. I feel just awful about this because I really miss this opportunity to commune with the quilting community. It's been a difficult year for both good and bad reasons. I started off with high hopes and lots of enthusiasm, and considering I was sick off and on through March, I was doing pretty well. And then. The times in my life when I've had that kind of focus have been magical. It was duri...

The Cranky Quilter: Lazy vs. Busy

http://thecrankyquilter.blogspot.com/2011/03/lazy-vs-busy.html

Sunday, March 13, 2011. Lazy vs. Busy. I love this picture! Wouldn't it be great to be that dog, lying on the couch asleep with a few poppyseed muffins nearby? I've always been a busy person. Ever since I can remember I've been a multi tasker. I've never been able to "just watch TV," I've always got something else going on. I'm either reading, or working on the laptop, or sewing. Lately, I've come to the realization that I have either become lazy, or so busy that I might as well be. Talking on the phone ...

The Cranky Quilter: September 2010

http://thecrankyquilter.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 30, 2010. OK, so I'm a day early.but today I'm introducing my favorite fabric line for October. I was going to do something Halloweenie but decided that was way too predictable, and I aim to be unpredictable. This line is very cute in so many ways. Retro, yet modern, French, yet American, Fun, yet Traditional, you know, kind of like me! For me "Artist" always seemed kind of elitist. It was like "I'm an Artist" with nose upturned and eyes turned downward with disdain. I suppose...Of co...

The Cranky Quilter: August 2010

http://thecrankyquilter.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 24, 2010. What do you LOVE to do? The last few days I've been on a roll about some of the things about quilting that I hate, most notably Quilt Meanies and unwelcoming local quilt shops. There are some other things but I have to hold something back for one of those days when I really need to vent. So.let's talk about the good stuff! There's so much that I love about quilting! I'd love to hear from you guys what you love most about quilting. Let's face it, we've got to love it because ...

Quilting in Montana

From the Calamity Quilter somewhere close to a seam ripper in Red Lodge, Montana. Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Playing Catch-Up For Monthly Block Exchange. I'm so far behind! All of a sudden I look over to the side of my sewing machine and I find a stack of block exchange blocks that I need to get done. On top of that, I present my own block at guild in April!
