South Africa staged its first National Quilt Festival in Cape Town in 1988 and these have become biennial events which are looked forward to by quilters from across the country as well as outside of our borders. The newly formed "Affiliated Country Groups" forms part of the South African quilting fraternity and functions as a Guild on its own. These groups are situated far from the large Regional Guilds and function autonomously while enjoying all the benefits of SAQG. The 9th SAQG Travelling Quilt Exhibition was launched on 17 September 2015 in George. Some of the best quilts from the 2015 National Quilt Festival Competition have been chosen for this exhibition, which will showcase a selection of South African inspired quilts: diverse in design, rich in the use of colour, fibre and threads, stitched with boundless creativity and imagination, all blended together in harmony. Patchwork Quilters in Africa. Quilt Workshops and Classes. Regular general meetings of the Kenya Quilt Guild are held on the third Thursday of every month except August and December. Monthly meetings are held at Sikh Union near Premier Academy off Forest Road. Meetings open at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am start, and generally run until lunchtime. Visitors may attend up to 3 meetings.
