May 25, 2011. Nothing says Spring quite like asparagus (with the possible exception of rhubarb) and it stars here in this super nutritious casserole. Pair this with a simple green salad and you have a meal sure to impress the capri pants off your dinner guests. But before we go any further, I would like to take a moment to talk about fiddleheads:. What are fiddleheads, you ask? But, with the good comes the . . . . And fear not, I will go over this again in the recipe instructions. When choosing your corn...

January 10, 2012. Pie Making, etc. To keep myself sane-ish through all the stressed-out, sleep-deprived, how-the-heck-do-you-make-an-APA-reference-list weeks, I have made a point each weekend to make a pie. Pie making is great for sanity, because it forces you to slow down and be in what you're doing - making a pie. As some of you surely know, the lovely ladies of The Post Punk Kitchen. Recently released a new book all about making vegan pies, Vegan Pie In The Sky. Without further ado;. After making the ...

June 22, 2011. Whole Grain Wheat-free Pizza Crust. I love me some pizza, but I don't love wheat quite so much. I'm not gluten-intolerant, but over the past few months I have greatly reduced my wheat intake and I've never felt better. We can all benefit from eating less wheat - our bodies just aren't built to process the amount most of us eat - but it can be difficult to find ways around eating it. I must give some credit to Mark Bittman. Here's a little inspiration:. Whole Grain Wheat-Free Pizza Crust.

February 09, 2012. Mini-Cleansing and Cleansing Beet Juice Recipe. I have been dragging lately - physically and mentally - something has just been "off" the last couple weeks. Then, when I woke up yesterday morning with a stomach ache and a serious case of the grumps, I knew, it was time for a mini-cleanse. One way I will be getting all those fruits and veggies in is with fresh homemade juice. One of my favourite juices (which is also very cleansing) is as follows:. 1-2 inch chunk of ginger. A lot of peo...

August 13, 2011. Raw Ginger Peach Granola. Peach season is in full swing and I just can't get enough of 'em. Peaches get along swell with my very favourite root, ginger (just ask herbal tea drinkers everywhere), so the pair where a natural choice to dress up some raw granola. This quick breakfast or snack will keep you feeling full and energized till your next meal and it's darn tasty too! Raw Ginger Peach Granola. One ripe peach, pitted and diced. 3 tbsp slivered almonds. 2 tbsp walnut pieces. I'll be p...

Through a transparent look at her own life, Ashley shares her struggles, triumphs, and joys. She shows us a world where the kitchen is liberty and food is its reward. Her recipes tend toward dessert, but who doesn’t love something sweet? You’ll also find a mix of recipes like making your own sea salt. And creative use for leftovers. If you’re looking for seasonally appropriate, full flavor dishes, I’d definitely recommend Hannah’s blog,. I first met Hannah in person. Crazy right? So that explains a lot.

Food Connections: Red, White, and Blueberries
http://foodconnections.blogspot.com/2015/07/red-white-and-blueberries.html
Connecting with local foods in the Northwest and beyond. Thursday, July 2, 2015. Red, White, and Blueberries. I has been exceptionally hot in the Northwest and since most people in Seattle don't have air conditioning, when the temperature climbs to 90F (32C), it's best to chill out, and I can't think of a better way than to eat cooling sorbet. So be thankful when the farmers at the markets have berries because berries aren't easy to grow, especially when they're grown organically. I let that mixture thaw...

Shepherd's Pie is one of my long time favorites. It's the best for a rainy day. When I'm looking for better flavors and texture, Olsen's Farms. I must admit, I'm a bit late with this post because I read this book. I have donated box after box to Bella's Voice. A nonprofit thrift store that supports the Feral Cat Project. 1 cup boiling water.

Connecting with local foods in the Northwest and beyond. Thursday, November 20, 2014. Brussels Sprouts: Two Ways. The time to buy Brussels sprouts is when the weather turns cold. And lately it's been cold enough to bring in the hummingbird feeder at night. Buy fresh sprouts, if possible. Frozen sprouts are often bitter and serving frozen Brussels sprouts can turn people off of this great vegetable. Brussels Sprouts, Leeks and Red Peppers with Lemon. 1 large leek, sliced and washed thoroughly. Brussels sp...
