A different day « Pushkasmarbles

Intellectual wanderings of a professional researcher-writer. Thursday, March 14, 2013. How Times Have Changed. Secondary research sure has changed in the twenty-five years or so that I’ve been a professional librarian engaged in reference work. 8212; abstracts. When full text articles became available in the professional database systems, we all thought we’d died and gone to heaven. It was simple. Clean, quick, and efficient, and — you knew when you were done because you had found everything in...This re...

Peregrinations: So Much to Love

Intellectual wanderings of a professional researcher-writer. Wednesday, March 13, 2013. So Much to Love. In one of the online research communities of which I am a member, someone posed the question: “Do you love your work? If so, why? Oh, where to start? First of all – for those of you who might not know me – what do I do? I am glad to be done with office politics, including wasteful meetings, endless projects, performance reviews, etc. The only performance review I need (or want) is the phone call f...

Wonderful is all around us. Newer posts →. 8216;Read and Cake’ and the wonder of reading out loud. Work on a Friday lunchtime in the library is fun, it is not really work. I provide a homemade cake and several copies of the same book and I read to a group of students who voluntarily just turn up to listen. The school library is busy but for half an hour they sit around a table and they listen to a story and then we discuss and eat cake. We have read Goblins. By Phillip Reeve, Hatchet. We are now reading.

Intellectual wanderings of a professional researcher-writer. Monday, March 11, 2013. For various reasons, technical, professional, and personal, this blog has languished…. Now, it’s time to get things going again. Blogging removes most restrictions, and offers an easy platform for musing, expounding, exploring, and sharing. And perhaps even for answering questions, especially about the research process and how I help clients to understand, use, and communicate important ideas and information. Come away, ...

Intellectual wanderings of a professional researcher-writer. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. 8220;Marketing Fraud”. Today, though, we got a call from…. I kid you not! That’s what showed up on the Caller ID, along with a phone number from the Seattle area. Apparently it's a debt consolidation service. They're barking up the wrong tree, though, since I have no debt. If they really knew their business, they would call only consumers who actually have debts. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow me on LinkedIn.
