Individual Augmentation: Last blog from Iraq?
http://jonwaygan.blogspot.com/2009/07/last-blog-from-iraq.html
Where in the world is Jonathan? Last blog from Iraq? Well, the end is near. I am now inside the window of only four weeks left in Iraq! I will still spend several days in Kuwait out-processing, but there is light at the end of the tunnel! In retrospect, this deployment has not been that bad. It was definitely longer than any of my submarine deployments, but the "amenities" made it seem much shorter. Deploying on the USS Honolulu. Nor would I trade my experience as a Submarine Officer! That is published b...

Where in the world is Jonathan? Is it May already? Hello, friends and family! Well, I finally did it. I let a whole month go by without a blog post. For those of you "regulars" that subscribe to my blog, you probably saw it coming. I am most motivated to write when interesting or exciting things happen to me, but here lately it has really been like "groundhog day" for several weeks now. I will do my best to bring everyone up to speed, though. LT Jonathan Gandy, USN. HHC 448th CA BN. The new "normal day".

Where in the world is Jonathan? The cutest Navy fan in the world came to visit me over the long weekend. We had a GREAT time together but it went by too fast. I finally got to wow her with a quick tour of my alma mater, and we both got to see navy win at home (I hadn't seen that since my sophomore year)! Jonathan W. Gandy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am a Naval Officer qualified in submarines that recently completed a year long deployment with the Army. I volunteered to serve as a Civil Affairs Officer attached to the 3-7 Field Artillery Battalion out of Schofield Barracks, HI. It turned out to be an extremely rewarding experience. Where in the world is Jonathan? One more airplane ride. I can't believe this day has come. Even over the last week, as I would think forward to what these final few hours would be like, they still seemed an eternity away! Well, it is really about four hours worth of admin briefs, stress management workshops, and weapons/gear turn-in crammed into about four separate days. or in my case 11 days! The bummer about the whole process is that in the end I didn't even need to out-process with the whole group....

Where in the world is Jonathan? Family and friends,. I don't mean to complain, but shouldn't our combat-ready Air Force pilots be able to handle a little reduced visibility? I guess someone high up realized that landing "blindfolded" is an unnecessary risk at this point of operations in Iraq. I can understand that, but it sure is annoying. (I AM READY TO SEE JENNA AGAIN! Please keep me and Jenna in your prayers. and especially that I can get out of here in a safe and timely manner. Jonathan W. Gandy.

Where in the world is Jonathan? Jonathan W. Gandy. Well, I have again let a significant period of time go by without really. Started to realize that my trip to the desert is right around the corner and I really started to get anxious. The reality that this time I really will be saying goodbye to Jenna and will fly to the opposite side of the earth really began to set in. I have to admit that I started to get sad and had to change what I was thinking about really quick. Jonathan W. Gandy. I am a Naval Off...

Where in the world is Jonathan? Team Leader at work! In this picture, one of the village leaders is showing us a water treatment unit this is in severe disrepair. This type of project is very common in this area of operations. Making sure these wells, canals, and water treatment units are operational is especially important before the dry season arrives. Where in the world is Jonathan? My Navy friends are gone. That goes without saying, but I have to because Jenna subscribes to this blog. :). This has been the part of the deployment that my training and experience as the Quality Assurance Officer on the USS Honolulu. I tried not to spend too much time gawking up at the sky, though, as I was still in the middle of a village in Iraq. The danger is still out there and we still have to remain cautious. Once again, thank you, everyone! Jonathan W. Gandy.

Where in the world is Jonathan? Last days in Iraq. Pictures on the banks of the Tigris are my favorite. This was probably my last opportunity to do it, so I jumped up on the bank and had one of my soldiers take the picture. "Aloha, Iraq! I had this picture on my facebook page with the caption, "This is NOT the engineroom of a submarine! One of my Army counterparts left the comment, "What tipped you off? I told him it was the latter. "In the Navy. you can sail the Seven Seas! Outskirts of Tikrit and the W.
