Human-scaled Adventures: Where I'm Headed Today
http://wildbluebernie.blogspot.com/2010/03/where-im-headed-today.html
Minimal carbon footprint and a fulfilled life. Sunday, March 28, 2010. Where I'm Headed Today. I hate the name, but I get the reason for it. Avatar Grove is about 15 km outside of Port Renfrew, and has some of the last remaining big trees in the Renfrew area. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Human-scaled Adventures: March 2009
http://wildbluebernie.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Minimal carbon footprint and a fulfilled life. Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Sunday, March 29, 2009. Seriously, a stunning day. Warm (high of 9C predicted) with occasional bits of wind, what a day for a ride. Rode downtown, where I finally picked up a rear rack for my bike. Then I filled a couple of panniers with the stuff I had on my back for the ride home. The roof racks I might have been able to lash to the bike- after all, we've done it with paddles before. But the roof box was another thing indeed...

Human-scaled Adventures: V-Con (No, Really!)
http://wildbluebernie.blogspot.com/2009/10/v-con-no-really.html
Minimal carbon footprint and a fulfilled life. Saturday, October 3, 2009. V-Con (No, Really! Sometimes it's really very easy to do without a car. Friday morning found us up early and on the municipal bus out to the ferry. 20 Minutes to down-town and another 40 or so out to the ferry with a 5 minute transfer layover, that's not bad. Sure, we ended up at the ferry an hour earlier than we needed to, but that was my fault rather than a flaw in the transit system. This was one of the articulated buses we're f...

http://wildbluebernie.blogspot.com/2009/06/juan-de-fuca-trail-day-one-09-june-2009.html
Minimal carbon footprint and a fulfilled life. Monday, June 22, 2009. Juan de Fuca Trail Day One 09 June 2009. Up at 5:00 am which, sadly, is not that uncommon for me. Wake Paula (who doesn't take to 5:00 am well), toss my backpack in the back of the (borrowed) car (there was no public transit from our place early enough) , and off to breakfast at Tim Horton's and the bus depot. Paula pulled away and ½ an hour later, I was on the West Coast Trail Express. Hoping that endorphins and Advil. It was easy to ...

Human-scaled Adventures: Kayaking in Sidney
http://wildbluebernie.blogspot.com/2009/07/kayaking-in-sidney.html
Minimal carbon footprint and a fulfilled life. Monday, July 13, 2009. We went out kayaking in Sidney yesterday. The original idea had been to make the passage out to Portland Island. August 29, 2009 at 9:33 PM. That is not necessarily what I have heard from my anonymous tipsters and spies. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Human-scaled Adventures: April 2009
http://wildbluebernie.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Minimal carbon footprint and a fulfilled life. Thursday, April 9, 2009. Took a wrong turn today. I was trying to get onto the Blenkinsop Greenway and instead I turned up Feltham. Turns out that there's a trail at the end of Feltham, and seeing as I wasn't going anywhere in particular, I decided to follow it. Turns out that it's quite extensive and ends up at a big pond full of ducks. Pant clip, helmet, coat, etc. (I really. Still, they did carry me 43 km and at a reasonable speed. I thought of just b...

Human-scaled Adventures: Gear Day
http://wildbluebernie.blogspot.com/2010/05/gear-day.html
Minimal carbon footprint and a fulfilled life. Thursday, May 13, 2010. Well, it's Paddlefest this weekend in Ladysmith. Home to a lovely market, beautiful historic down town, and cool bus, and Sealegs Kayaking. While hauling all the gear out, Marlene came over, and we ended up setting up her tents as well as our own. She has a great Outbound tent in her earthquake preparedness kit:. I put up my bivy, which neither Paula nor Marlene had seen up before, and our new Sierra Designs tent. I really like the am...

Human-scaled Adventures: May 2010
http://wildbluebernie.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Minimal carbon footprint and a fulfilled life. Friday, May 21, 2010. Ladysmith was, as usual a pretty good time. Paula and I headed up-Island on the E&N about 8:00am with two inflatable kayaks and a couple of backpacks, and got off the train just after 10:00am to find John, Louise, Marlene, and Tracy just getting the lay of the land. The train pulled in to Ladysmith. After renewing my acquaintance with Insomniac Coffee's coffee wagon, Marlene and I settled in for a bit of a mid-day nosh, and were joined ...
