Wessex Ridgeway Walk - 2010: We Did It!
http://re-wessex-ridgeway.blogspot.com/2010/05/we-did-it.html
Wessex Ridgeway Walk - 2010. Our walk from Marlborough, Wiltshire - to - Lyme Regis, Dorset. 137 miles of rural countryside along the Wessex Ridgeway Path. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. To the sea at last! Many people have walked here before us, but our own journey is now complete after the last 8 mile day of walking to. Today, we really like the path, unlike yesterday, it's an untended path mostly, not a cricket pitch, but it goes through some great countryside. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). May 24 pho...

Wye Valley Walk: Train Travel to London
http://wyevalleywalk.blogspot.com/2012/06/train-travel-to-london.html
Our walking Trip along the River Wye - 2012. Wednesday, June 6, 2012. Train Travel to London. I have some catch-up to do. On Tuesday, we took the train to Liverpool - convenient and comfy. Toured The Beatles Story museum - quite good but a little too much minutia for me (do we really need to see a reconstruction of the newspaper office that first publicized the Beatles? The train back to Chester was easy. We ate salads in our room watching SpringWatch. Our hotel in London (Th Kensington House Hotel) is w...

Wye Valley Walk: May 2012
http://wyevalleywalk.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Our walking Trip along the River Wye - 2012. Thursday, May 31, 2012. Newbridge-on-Wye to Rhayader, May 31. We enjoyed the best. Today we had a much cooler start to our walk – more of what we are used to, walking in the UK – and it made for comfortable walking through fields of sheep and buttercups. A very fine, light mist turned into a more steady light rain, but rather than putting a damper (ha! Gortex jackets are remarkable.). It was a big “people” day. Human Being Watch – 10! 1 mailman (we see a mailm...

Wye Valley Walk: Our Last Day on the Wye Valley Walk, June 2
http://wyevalleywalk.blogspot.com/2012/06/our-last-day-on-wye-valley-walk-june-2.html
Our walking Trip along the River Wye - 2012. Sunday, June 3, 2012. Our Last Day on the Wye Valley Walk, June 2. I was pooped after yesterday's 12 miles and pooped just thinking about today's 12.25 miles. But, it is our last day! I have shin splints from the steep descent yesterday - hoping to power through today with minimal pain.). In general, The Wye Valley Walk is much more rural and wild than other walks we've done - villages and hamlets are fewer and farther between, some days, there are none at all.

Wye Valley Walk: A Grand Day Out in Chester
http://wyevalleywalk.blogspot.com/2012/06/grand-day-out-in-chester.html
Our walking Trip along the River Wye - 2012. Monday, June 4, 2012. A Grand Day Out in Chester. Ate in an adequate (barely) pub last night, then back to the Stone Villa for an excellent sleep. Today was an amazing day. Merlin) were decked out in every kind of royal gown and jewel you could imagine. The streets filled (clogged) and the party began. Every 10 or so Giants, there was a drumming contingent – very primitive and Celtic-sounding and perfect for the event. Colorful and just about...We ate a late l...

Wye Valley Walk: Rhayader to Llangurig, June 1
http://wyevalleywalk.blogspot.com/2012/06/rhayader-to-llangurig-june-1.html
Our walking Trip along the River Wye - 2012. Sunday, June 3, 2012. Rhayader to Llangurig, June 1. Best news item last night on TV was the 85 year old woman who knit the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, their carriage and 4 horses drawing it. All teeny, tiny and crazy as could be. We continued to watch my favorite SpringWatch each night, M-Th. Most little newborns are doing well (except that Runty the Nuthatch finally died.). Another reminder that we are in slate territory are the trail gate weights - slabs ...

Wye Valley Walk: Soggy London Walking
http://wyevalleywalk.blogspot.com/2012/06/soggy-london-walking.html
Our walking Trip along the River Wye - 2012. Thursday, June 7, 2012. Booked the trip and then learned about the coincident Jubilee madness. Add the Brit hangers-on from the Jubilee celebrations and you've got mobs. So, the Church was a welcome stop. I did notice, though, that the Nat'l Gallery has done something that the Tate has also done - changed the white gallery walls to deep, saturated colors - and the paintings definitely do stand out beautifully on the darker walls. Tomorrow we come home. We ...
