CyberTorah – Torah Commentary from Rabbi David Booth

Torah Commentary from Rabbi David Booth. By Rabbi David Booth. June 24, 2015. My intent had been to take a hiatus from CyberTorah, yet two incidents this last week invite response. The first is the horrible tragedy in Charleston. A community in Bible study was brutally attacked, resulting in nine murders by a young man steeped in racist ideology. Even more disturbing, that young man appears to be…. Continue Reading →. Faith is a Choice. By Rabbi David Booth. May 21, 2015. Continue Reading →. May 14, 2015.

Rabbi David Booth | CyberTorah

All posts by Rabbi David Booth. Created in the Image of God. August 25, 2016. This summer has been filled with profanation of the divine image. Whether the attack on the airport in Istanbul (which I missed by just 20 hours) or in Nice, terrorists acting in the name of God are instead profaning the divine image in others through murder and terror. Islam that at times has been associated … Continue reading Created in the Image of God. Cybertorah is on vacation. June 16, 2016. June 9, 2016. May 26, 2016.

Encountering God Again | CyberTorah

http://www.rabbibooth.org/cybertorah/2015/05/encountering-god-again

May 7, 2015. I feel there is a great crisis of theology in our era. Even for people who believe in God, what we mean by that relationship varies so immensely that I sometimes wonder if there is even a common referent at all. For those who doubt or don’t believe, the problem is even more immense. In addition, we are so used to theology as what others believe. If God is a kindly old man with a beard, then much of the 20th and 21st centuries argue against such a being existing. We may respect other ...There...

Faith is a Choice | CyberTorah

http://www.rabbibooth.org/cybertorah/2015/05/faith-is-a-choice

Faith is a Choice. May 21, 2015. Faith is a choice. At least for me, I see the possibility of God rather than the necessity. That is, it is possible that the Universe – and my life – have no meaning. Yet my own passional nature, my own experience of existence, argues otherwise to me. And so I choose meaning and God. The answer resides in my deepest self. Shabbat, kashrut, other ritual practices, are all part of that moment of choosing to hear God. They reinforce my choice, help me connect in the self...

October 11, 2007. It’s good to get back to a normal routine. I love the intensity of the Jewish fall Holy Days, with their call to holy living and celebratory time, but I also enjoy the rhythm of my day to day life. The elevated living of Tishrei, the month of festivals, creates a consciousness within us of … Continue reading Normal Living. September 26, 2007. September 19, 2007. God of Love | CyberTorah

http://www.rabbibooth.org/cybertorah/2015/05/god-of-love

May 14, 2015. There is a God of love we encounter in our dreams. Dream space was something people used to know, but we have become alienated from it, and in so doing have lost touch with God. We are so obsessed with what is real that we have lost touch with what is true. There is an inner landscape, a place of visions and images and dreams, that serves as a bridge between this world and the next. Yet that inner landscape is where the truth and wholeness of the self is located. Faith is a Choice.

Commentary by Rabbi David Booth. This blog is for testing. February 21, 2013 in Uncategorized. Just thought it was time to put a statement out there in case someone comes across this blog. I made this blog when experimenting for Rabbi Booth. It’s not active now, but I’m keeping it around for testing purposes and in case he wants the name someday. Commentary by Rabbi David Booth. This site was an experiment by a congregant to see if this would be a good place for the rabbi’s blog. Ultimately the rabbi decided he would rather have his own site, but then we didn’t want to delete this experiment because we wanted to keep the name. You can find Rabbi David Booth’s actual blog at rabbibooth.org/cybertorah/. Comments feed for this article. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. The Afterlife of the Brain. Belief and experience are two entirely different things. I believed. That when we die, it is over. Do it now because this is all there is. My experience. Of me or the you. Significant parts of the me. Of me have been missing since the brainstorm and I am still very much alive. Some experiences that brought me the greatest joy before brain injury are like nails on a chalkboard. How could I feel discomfort at a worship service? I gave in to the perma...
