Jewish Appalachian Outpost

Friday, January 10, 2014. Running Notes - יריעה - Yeri'ah. I love to run. I'm making an illustrated book about Jewish Meditative Running - 'twill have a HUGE audience! Anyway, during one of this week's runs (at the Y - too cold out even for me early this week) I had an "aha" moment. Running is great for that. Those of you who have been coming to clean our Torah scrolls have learned that each Torah is made out of several sheets of parchment, sewn together. Each sheet is called a יריעה " yeri'ah. Jewish Appalachian Outpost: Virtual Tallit

http://www.rabbijean.blogspot.com/2013/10/virtual-tallit.html

Wednesday, October 9, 2013. It is such a gorgeous day! Praying as I walk down to Ritter Park is a whole different experience from praying in the synagogue. The sun is illuminating, and occasionally blinding. I don't wear a prayer shawl, but I do pull a virtual tallit around me. First the beginning of Psalm 104, th. E prayer for putting on a tallit:. ברכי נפשי את יי. יי אלוהי גדלת מאוד. הוד והדר לבשת . עטה אור כשלמה . נוטה שמים כיריעה. They are not all pleasant connections. Some of the people are ill ...

Rabbi JB’s Blog

Rabbi JB’s Blog. Thanks for stopping by! Disclaimer: All quoting of sources is based on my understanding of their writings. Do we know who Joseph was? December 22nd, 2010. Aaron Parker was at the class and made an interesting point. He pointed out that when the Torah begins the story of the enslavement it discusses Pharaoh no longer knowing Joseph . He wondered if that is a fully accurate description. Or can one truly say that The Jews no longer knew who Joseph was . We need to make sure we know who Jose...

Rabbi Jordan D. Cohen's Blog

Rabbi Jordan D. Cohen's Blog. Thursday, March 5, 2015. Life is Never Perfect. Shabbat Bulletin - Parashat Ki Tisa. March 6, 2015. Our tradition teaches us that contained in the Aron. The smashing of the tablets is described in this week’s Torah portion, Ki Tisa. The rabbinic commentator then asks: why did God never rebuke Moses for breaking the tablets? The breaking of the tablets also provides another insight into the ongoing struggles of life. The shards of the broken tablets remind us of the conti...

Through the Lens of Torah & Halakhah | Texts and Tradition in Jewish Life

Through the Lens of Torah and Halakhah. Texts and Tradition in Jewish Life. Shehiya – Psak – 253. April 12, 2011. We showed that the second opinion in Shulchan Aruch 253:1 is the lenient approach to Chananya – and this is how the Rema paskens as well. We also worked through some of the basic issues brought up through the lens of the Mishna Berura. Here is the audio:. Shehiya – Ba’al ha-maor Ramban with 253 and bottom line Psak. Posted by Rabbi Jeffrey S. Fox. She-lo Asani Isha – Gemara and Rishonim.

Rabbi Jeffrey Abraham

My goal is to be intimately involved with a caring community where I can bring a passionate commitment to enhance and expand the roles of those who may consider themselves on the periphery or outside the community, in addition to those who are active members. I strive to help each congregant feel connected and that we are not diverse, but one K’lal Yisrael. The point of this site is to give you a place to get to know the Rabbi. So it might be a good idea to start here. Messages from the Rabbi.
