Alpha Baker Joan : Molasses Crumb Cakelets
http://alphabakerjoan.blogspot.com/2015/07/molasses-crumb-cakelets.html
Saturday, July 11, 2015. The Molasses Crumb Cakelets. These enchanting cakelets were on the agenda for the Alpha Bakers' week of July 13. I decided to bake them earlier although not as part of the group, so I did not photograph all the measuring. And mis en place. The recipe is very simple and straight-forward. I prepped the pan with Bakers Joy, but next time I will not because the coating is extra strong on the pan and the cakelets became moist because of my excessive spray, I think. July 11, 2015 at 7:...

Alpha Baker Joan : July 2015

Monday, July 27, 2015. Blueberry Pie - minus elderberries. Grab a fork - - It's sooooooo yummy! Believe me, I had intended to make The ElderBlueberry Pie. I even found and ordered freeze-dried elderberries because no fresh ones seemed to be found here in Texas, at least not at present. I had read that red elderberries are not edible and, when picking, one must choose dark berries not red. So, I opened one of my bags of berries to make the pie:. And, I had splurged on Rose's new baking ensemble - Mmmm.

Alpha Baker Joan : March 2015
http://alphabakerjoan.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Our choice of the week is Cran-Raspberry Upside-Down Cake. And the picture in The Cake Bible looked luscious. I glanced at the old copper tarte tatin pan sitting on the shelf at eye level beside my scale that I use daily - I thought, "why not? I gathered it up and gave it a nice brightening with copper polish. The raspberies needed to be seeded through a small wired sieve or food mill and their juices reduced. But when baked it rose just to the top with no overflow. Especially wh...

Monday, July 6, 2015. Fourth of July Cheesecake. The Fourth of July Cheesecake plus my Starburst. This latest adventure for me began a week or so ago when it occurred to me it would be fun to bake Rose's Fourth of July Cheesecake as a present for a friend named Jolee, whose birthday is on the Fourth of Jolee. For the present cake, I used the inexpensive McCormick coloring in the amount called for:. And was rewarded with a bright scarlet 10 x 2 layer. Here it is in the oven . Posted by Alpha Baker Joan.

Alpha Baker Joan : December 2014
http://alphabakerjoan.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 29, 2014. Indeed, the whole thing was not far from the ‘madding crowd’ – a shrieking siren, a huge man stomping in boots and funny clothes, a police-looking person, a lot of black smoke, and myself. What do you suppose could have caused such weird behavior, and why do you suppose these people looked at me in a suspicious manner; as if I were inebriated, or a little ‘round the bend’? After all, it was only four o’clock in the morning –. In Highlights for Success for this recipe, Rose expl...

Alpha Baker Joan : February 2015

Thursday, February 26, 2015. Since these delectable little lemon posset shortcakes only beckon sweetly, how would one know that they are actually approaching the sublime? As Rose says about her enlightening experience with Ann Bridges at Restaurant Alma, the lemon posset offers a "pure and clean flavor." It is a "soft lemon cream . . . that relies entirely on the acidity of the Meyer lemon juice to set the cream" (p. 111). The mis en place was simple. Sinking slightly and coming slightly away from sides.

Monday, January 26, 2015. Chocolate cuddle cake, chiffon at that – how could anything be more divine? There may not seem to be, and yet it might be found atop an elegant chocolate chiffon cake A fantastic caramel whipped cream just may take it over the top. Above is a picture of such a cake in her crowning glory – I think she is stunning, even with some errors along the way of creation, furnishing a few necessary adjustments for the future. I hate it that Rose always means what she says]. Chop chocolate ...
