Rachel Dorn Ceramic Sculpture: Glazing, Glazing, Glazing

http://racheldorn.blogspot.com/2013/11/glazing-glazing-glazing.html

Rachel Dorn Ceramic Sculpture. Quick links for Clay Classes. Daily Mini Sculpture Project. Thursday, November 21, 2013. Glazing, Glazing, Glazing. At a wood firing workshop. First three coats of green underglaze and first coat of yellow on sprigs. First coat quickly applied to surface of sprigs. Second coat of underglaze carefully added to edges of sprigs. Part of the problem is that my underglazes require three full coats of color to become opaque after firing. One or two coats generally look opaque...

Rachel Dorn Ceramic Sculpture: Cone 6 at home

http://racheldorn.blogspot.com/2015/08/cone-6-at-home.html

Rachel Dorn Ceramic Sculpture. Quick links for Clay Classes. Daily Mini Sculpture Project. Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Cone 6 at home. My kiln goes to cone 6! It's an old kiln that I got as a hand-me-down and I've never actually tried to fire it this high. Cone 6. Is about 2232 degrees Fahrenheit or 2269 if you fire faster. I don't have pyrometer at home, so I'm not sure how fast I fired the kiln. Cone 6 glaze tests with underglaze and several different glazes. For the Archie Bray workshop. So I purchased...

Rachel Dorn Ceramic Sculpture. Quick links for Clay Classes. Daily Mini Sculpture Project. Friday, November 15, 2013. Post-break: Underglazing Marathon Begins. Stack of fired work waiting to be underglazes. I love my new nephew and it was great to see my brother and sister-in-law for more than a few days. It also made me think about how much more flexible my work time is as a mother of a school-age child than as the mother of an infant. First layer of underglaze read for the second firing. This blog was ...

Rachel Dorn Ceramic Sculpture: Glazing at Archie Bray

Rachel Dorn Ceramic Sculpture. Quick links for Clay Classes. Daily Mini Sculpture Project. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Glazing at Archie Bray. One of the most surprising things about the workshop. I took in Montana, a workshop ostensibly focused on the form of functional pottery, was that we spent the first day and half glazing. My glazed work from the workshop. A pitcher by Jeff Campana. Used at the workshop for cream). At all, even though I like the end-result of a glazed piece. Our workshop instructor, st...

Rachel Dorn Ceramic Sculpture. Quick links for Clay Classes. Daily Mini Sculpture Project. Daily Mini Sculpture Project. This page chronicles my daily mini sculpture project from 2012. I haven't continued this project, but I have chosen to keep the page accessible. Starting in March 2012. I decided to make one of these small pieces everyday. So I have been making one piece (almost) every day since. I recently had my work featured on Noah Scalin's blog, Make Something 365. Recap and Found Tools. I am an a...
