Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Writing Exercise # 10. On the eve of NaPoWriMo. I give you this final exercise ("final" as in "I will be writing poems and wrangling children for the next thirty days straight, so don't come lookin' here for any prompts in that time! And we met a gentleman who promised to light a fire in honor of my making the final stage at WoWps. I wish I could go back and collect his match as a souvenier, because it ended up being quite magical. It is up to you to decide the shape of the sculp...

Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Write a creepy rhyming poem to the meter of a classic nursery rhyme. Do your best to not make the rhyming words predictable (like rhyming heart with art. BLECH! Use slant rhymes aka "imperfect rhymes", for example: "I know I get mad easily, this universe is never pleasing me.". This was inspired by "one, two, Freddie's coming for you." that was in my head this morning while wiping down the kitchen counters.

Monday, June 29, 2009. What about the fourteenth? Since I get requests for the text of this piece at least three times a month (and where it was posted once before, way back when, is now bye-bye) I will paste it here and include a photo from the day this poem was based on (above.). Central Park, Mother’s Day. My son comes to me, holding. Thirteen severed tulip heads. A present he’s made, just for me. I knock the flowers from his hands,. Grab him by the arm, move quickly. From the crime scene. The Eighth ...

Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Check out this poem by Felix Pollak:. A vagina, said. Your divorce, said. An ominous voice within him. It means you should close the window. Or you'll catch cold, said. He dared not tell her. Write a poem "after Felix Pollak" that includes an image from a dream and its many interpretations. I like the idea of incorporating more people. Imagine what the dream of falling is to an actress as opposed to a kindergartner, or a shark to a convict as opposed to a surgeon.

Sometimes I Fall Down. Here She Dove and Did Not Rise; Here She was Never More Happy. Saturday, May 16, 2015. Tomorrow morning I'm flying home. And after three weeks at home. I'll go back home. I buy lunch on the street and dinner too. I pay for things mostly in coins, some paper, never plastic. I don't drink the tap water. I don't put my trash in a dumpster, I wait for the truck playing cute music to come by and take it down (or more often than not my roommate does because I'm at work). I'll be experien...

Friday, March 4, 2011. Friday Love Poem: Rachel McKibbens! Lots of folks saw this video a few weeks ago on Valentines Day, but I thought I'd be remiss not to include it as a Friday Love Poem. Plus, it stars one of the two best Holdens in the world! To my daughters, I need to say:. Go with the one who loves you biblically. The one whose love lifts its head to you despite its broken neck. Whose body bursts sixteen arms electric to carry you, gentle,. The way old grief is gentle. Who give. And lead....Becau...

Cass J. Hodges. Cass J. Hodges. April 3, 2013. By Cass J. Hodges. Never out of breath we. Gasped into the night sky for the fun of it. For. Every promise we kissed into. Each tore up road sign. Every. In God we -suddenly- trust near miss. That lanky turn of highway. Your feet on the dashboard,. Car doors full of empty soda pop cans. Like we ran out of gas, laughing like. We’d never seen this rest-stop. Before, like we’d always find a way to. My two-fingered whiskey grip on your hips,. Every mile we’d yet.

Cass J. Hodges. Cass J. Hodges. 30 Letters: More from last November →. 30 letters: Number 4. July 16, 2013. By Cass J. Hodges. Last night we talked forever and it felt like a revelation. Some of our discussion was about creating, about art, about making things together. My sweetheart and I are going to launch a small project together, and it reminds me of a similar time/collaboration we worked on last November – creating things together is something I cherish. Esoteric revelations for the win, I suppose.

Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Tattoos and "I Do"s. The possibilities are infinite. Chances are i'll be a tattooed bride. So i guess i already am a tattooed bride. what i should have said is that chances are tattoos will be on full display at my wedding. I was thinking about it at all. covering my tattoos won't make me. Tattooed. it will just keep wedding guests from seeing the tattoos. and while that practice may serve a very specific purpose in the workplace, it won't serve. Mama: what you talkin' 'bout willis?
