Every day in China is an Adventure: November 2007
http://wendyinchina07.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Every day in China is an Adventure. Living and teaching in Beijing, China. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. I know this is going to sound weird. Sometimes I just have these moments, like last Friday when I went to the LaoShe Teahouse to watch Peking Opera and other performances, where I just sat in complete awe, almost child-like, thinking about how absolutely wonderful China is. And I have moments where I keep repeating to myself, "Being Chinese is so freaking cool! I cannot believe that it's the end of No...

Every day in China is an Adventure: December 2007
http://wendyinchina07.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Every day in China is an Adventure. Living and teaching in Beijing, China. Tuesday, December 25, 2007. Beijing is a little bizarre at times. After dinner, Brandy and I went to this bar called the People's Bus Bar, which was pretty much a trailer in a parking lot converted to a bar. They had 10 kuai (= $1.35 USD) giant mugs of draft beer and the dj was spinning an awesome mix of reggaeton and hip-hop, my fave. At 11pm, someone brought a 3 year old in a BAR! It was absolutely crazy. I wandered around a fan...

Every day in China is an Adventure: Less than a month until the Olympics...
http://wendyinchina07.blogspot.com/2008/07/less-than-month-until-olympics.html
Every day in China is an Adventure. Living and teaching in Beijing, China. Sunday, July 13, 2008. Less than a month until the Olympics. And security is TIGHT. Having lived in Beijing for the past 10 months (and for 4 months back in 2005 while I was studying abroad), I've been tracking the changes this city has been undergoing in preparation for the Olympics. What I really want to talk about is security. Among other ridiculous stories I've heard about increased security measures for the Olympics, my boss ...

Every day in China is an Adventure: June 2008
http://wendyinchina07.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Every day in China is an Adventure. Living and teaching in Beijing, China. Wednesday, June 4, 2008. Cultural exchange like whoa. Earlier this week, I taught my students how to FLOSS. We were doing a lesson on daily routines. I talked about how it is quite common for Americans to brush their teeth in the middle of the day, after lunch. And that some Americans even floss after lunch. I asked the class if anyone brushed their teeth or flossed after lunch, knowing full well the answer would be No. From Los A...

Every day in China is an Adventure. Living and teaching in Beijing, China. Sunday, April 27, 2008. Reporting from Seoul, S.Korea! Dear Friends and Readers,. Please forgive me for having neglected my blog for so long. I started writing pretty frequently in my personal blog, so I kinda gave up writing detailed entries here (In case you haven't noticed from the many video posts). But now I am back! And I'm in Korea! It's been really great. Here is the play-by-play, more for my sake than for your's. Picked u...

Every day in China is an Adventure: Nationalism at its best (and its worst)
http://wendyinchina07.blogspot.com/2008/05/nationalism-at-its-best-and-its-worst.html
Every day in China is an Adventure. Living and teaching in Beijing, China. Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Nationalism at its best (and its worst). It's been a little over a week since the 8.0 earthquake hit Sichuan. I've been following the news, trying to digest the photos, the news reports, and the ever rising death toll, and having an extremely hard time trying to put into words all the feelings bubbling up inside. People suffering. When they suffer, I. And that is nationalism at its best. I know I'm gener...

Every day in China is an Adventure: Beijing, you're so polluted, you make me mad.

Every day in China is an Adventure. Living and teaching in Beijing, China. Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Beijing, you're so polluted, you make me mad. The moment I step outside, I feel like I'm being pelted by debris. It's in my eyes, up my nose, in the back of my throat. And it feels gritty and dirty. Now I completely understand why old Chinese men are constantly hocking up loogies onto the street. They're EATING the pollution! Are you kidding me? Remember to cut me some slack if next time you see me, my face i...

Every day in China is an Adventure: Great teaching moment of the week
http://wendyinchina07.blogspot.com/2008/05/great-teaching-moment-of-week.html
Every day in China is an Adventure. Living and teaching in Beijing, China. Saturday, May 31, 2008. Great teaching moment of the week. Earlier this week, I spent some time in class explaining the differences between "bored" and "boring," "excited" and "exciting," "embarrassed" and "embarrassing." For some reason, the students always get really confused about how to use the two adjectives. For example, the difference in meaning between saying "I am bored" and "I am boring.". Knave meels strucks to float.
