Kayla's Blog: Harry Potter

Tuesday, December 1, 2009. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that not all students have read this novel, so as teachers, we can't assume that everyone is going to be prepared for it. I also liked that Glazner pointed out that we need to go beyond gender, class, and race when dealing with diversity. As I said before, we are not going to be able to cover every issue, but I think it is important to do the best that we can at exposing our students to many different types of diversity. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. I have to say that I really enjoyed this novel. However, I have always been interesting in Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, so it wasn't surprising to me. I think this novel would be interesting to compare with "The Diary of Anne Frank". It would give two different aspects of the time period and what things were going on. Here is the URL if anyone is interested in watching the trailer : http:/ www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi751566873/. Wednesday, October 14, 2009. As far as teaching ...

Chelsey Scalese: Dumbest Generation
http://chelseyscalese.blogspot.com/2011/02/dumbest-generation.html
Thursday, February 3, 2011. The article, The Dumbest Generation,. February 3, 2011 at 8:58 PM. I agree with the multi-tasking quote in that our generation can do it successfully, so why stop. Time is Money is a great motto for our generation since we can save time doing a couple things at once. Personally, I think if the generation above us could multi-task as good as us they would do it just as much as we do. February 5, 2011 at 7:29 AM. February 6, 2011 at 8:11 PM. Adolescent Literature: October 2009

Friday, October 23, 2009. The Book Thief and "A Class Divided". Well, first off, I LOVED The Book Thief. I started out struggling with it - the constant interruptions by our narrator were a bit distracting at first, but I got used to it quickly. It took me a while to get really into it, but I balled my eyes out the last 75 or so pages! After watching "A Class Divided," I must say, I was stunned. Stunned that a teacher had the guts (and the OK from administration? Monday, October 12, 2009. I thought the a...

Chelsey Scalese: January 2011
http://chelseyscalese.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 31, 2011. After viewing The Second Skin documentary, I have a better understanding of what exactly the “virtual world” is and how it works. One of the most shocking things I discovered was the intense and real relationships that these people created in their virtual world. A study showed that 1 in 3 women gamers date someone in the virtual world, and that they feel like it is a place where it is safe to get intimate. As Edward Castronova said, ". As much as I am aware of product placement...

Boy Meets Boy and its Queer Utopia. It slowly made sense to me that it was a utopian society, as I thought to myself for the 10th time, “Where do they live? 8221; because, sadly, it is certainly uncharacteristic of any place here in the United States that I know of! To say Boy Meets. Was not sexually explicit in any way. It was just the...
