Este cel mai vechi tip de radioreceptor. Popoarele de limbă engleză îi spun radio cu cristal. La noi, a rămas denumirea de galenă, de pe vremea când radioamatorul topea plumbul şi sulful într-o eprubetă . O aşchie de galenă astfel fabricată era fixată într-o montură de alamă şi împunsă în diferite părţi cu o sârmă de oţel, tăiată dintr-o coardă de vioară, în căutarea punctului unde se producea detecţia semnalului radiofonic.
