Rainbow Chard: August 2015
http://rainbowchard.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 31 August 2015. Harvest Monday - rain, rain, rain. Look, I'm well ahead of my usual posting time today (normally scraping in at about 11pm). It's bank holiday Monday and I'm here visiting my folks in West Sussex. It's also my sister's 50th, who lives along the coast a bit in Brighton. The views are amazing, looking back across the town down to the sea. I took photos but they're trapped on my camera, darn. Not ripe yet unfortunately, I'd like to try one! In the lean-to the toms are mostly doing ok...
Rainbow Chard: July 2015
http://rainbowchard.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Monday, 27 July 2015. Harvest Monday - whered the summer go? So it seems autumn has decided to pay us a visit in the middle of summer, cold and wet. I'm pleased with the rain though, the allotment was so dry.but it's a tad strange having to wear a scarf, warm jumper and hoody! And on to the harvests. The toms are still coming along but have slowed down since the gloomy weather started. This was earlier in the week before summer decided to go away. But there's a sneaky tomato or two in there as well.
Rainbow Chard: January 2015
http://rainbowchard.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Monday, 26 January 2015. Harvest Monday - parsnips (and a starling murmeration). And in the morning we'd watched the birdies in our garden, to take part in the RSPB's Big Garden Bird Watch (14 individual birds with 8 species, which is our best year EVER! There were lots of birds around the plot too, including two robins having a bit of a fight. Anyhoo, on to the week's veggies which I was pretty pleased with, all from the plot on Sunday:. Some kale (nero), a little cabbage and my last onions from the shed.
Rainbow Chard: Harvest Monday - rhubarb shortbread sans photo
http://rainbowchard.blogspot.com/2015/05/harvest-monday-rhubarb-shortbread-sans.html
Monday, 18 May 2015. Harvest Monday - rhubarb shortbread sans photo. But in the meantime, here's this week's harvests:. I picked some more Purple sprouting broccoli leaves, which are actually really tasty. Which we had with poached eggs (Looks a bit like the grouch from Sesame Street). I accidentally pulled up a little garlic whilst weeding. So that night, I pulled a couple of chard leaves from the tub in the front yard. Then whilst I was away she had our new classic, spicy chick pea pie with greens.
Rainbow Chard: Harvest Monday - hotting up?
http://rainbowchard.blogspot.com/2015/05/harvest-monday-hotting-up.html
Monday, 11 May 2015. Harvest Monday - hotting up? And another contrast, some not quite so photogenic potatoes! I discovered more as I was planting out my sweetcorn this week. I mean, how could I have missed these too? They went into several meals - a tasty soup (it looks a bit boring but was was nice, honest). The next day I picked some chard and.some asparagus! I added it to soup leftovers to make a spring veggie soup (plus some bought mange tout). More of the potatoes went with pie and leek. Thanks sue...

Cold Hands Warm Earth: Test Harvests: One Successful, One Not So Much
http://coldhandswarmearth.blogspot.com/2015/08/test-harvests-one-successful-one-not-so.html
Thursday, 13 August 2015. Test Harvests: One Successful, One Not So Much. As my trail camera had snapped it near the compost earlier this season. So back to the corn. I picked an ear. It felt a bit small (like the husks weren't quite full) but I was actually not expecting it to be ready, I just wanted to take a look. And what the heck, the kernels looked pretty plump to me! So then I cooked it. Still looked okay. Then I took a bite. Blech . mushy and tasteless. If you have any advice on either the corn o...

Cold Hands Warm Earth: August Update on Cucurbits: Part Two
http://coldhandswarmearth.blogspot.com/2015/08/august-update-on-cucurbits-part-two.html
Friday, 7 August 2015. August Update on Cucurbits: Part Two. The state of winter squash in my two dug gardens. This part two is pretty much all about the Cucurbits that I planted in hay bales. But I also have these two plants - one with a single fruit. At first I thought it was a small pumpkin . then I double-checked the photos of the zapallo del tronco (my seed packet calls them zapallito. With several more on the way. I've had a few already with many more again on the way. These cucumber plants (yes th...

Out on the Allotment: February 2009
http://emmaandjilly.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 21 February 2009. We've finally managed to get back on to the allotment today after all that snow, so thankfully it was a beautiful sunny day. We've had a very productive day with lots of digging out of weeds and roots (as demonstrated by me in the photo below). We also marked out a bed for potatoes and one for fruit, the latter as a result of some neighbours offering us some strawberry plants. We also have some fruit bushes which we plan to plant in this bed aswell. Monday, 2 February 2009.
allot of veg: November 2011
http://allotofveg.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
A blog describing how we use our allotment and what we grow there. Wednesday, 2 November 2011. Long time no post. Why didn't I post? As others have reported from time to time you just run out of energy. Nothing much was growing - even the beans. Nothing got watered at the right times - the eternal battle of the taps. Motivation within the ranks of the small (and bigger) helpers was low too. But now I'm back. Onions and garlic at the ready, 2012 is go! Well technically up to). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
allot of veg: May 2011
http://allotofveg.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
A blog describing how we use our allotment and what we grow there. Sunday, 22 May 2011. You would think with the lack of rain in these parts (24.2mm since April 1st) that the weeds might be a little more subdued this year. But they aren't. I have just spent 2 hours weeding and I'm still too ashamed to post the pictures. Thursday, 5 May 2011. You can do a lot in half an hour. As alluded to in the last post, time is of the essence these days at the allotment. It is productive - look radish! Anyway, armed w...
allot of veg: March 2011
http://allotofveg.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
A blog describing how we use our allotment and what we grow there. Tuesday, 29 March 2011. I booked an appointment in at work yesterday. "See you next week then - that's the 6th April". 6th April next week? How did that happen? We haven't made many visits to the allotment this year in fact when we visited two weeks ago it looked like this,. We cleared a bit. But didn't make much of an impression. So as I had a day off today I thought I 'd better get the season under way. . Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
allot of veg: October 2010
http://allotofveg.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
A blog describing how we use our allotment and what we grow there. Thursday, 28 October 2010. This is my 100th post - and boy has it been a long time coming! We have been very busy this year with family and work commitments but have fitted in quite a lot of travelling too so the blog has had to take a back seat. As you can see they have their own way of sorting these things out! Tonight we have been making preparations for the weekend. The pumpkins may be small but they look quite good I think. I've alwa...

Monday, 10 August 2015. Harvest Monday - a touch of colour. So, after a good start to the week, there was a bit of a lull.but things have picked up again. We could really do with some rain, it seems to be missing us, so I'll probably end up having to water in a couple of days.I can't actually remember the last time it rained. Here's my harvests for the week. I thought the toms were going to get properly going too but most of the week they just ripened a few at a time. A nice surprise on Saturday morning ...
