Raindrop Tea: April 2012

http://raindropteablog.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

I finished another embroidery project today: this one was designed by Lucky Jackson. Check out her awesome blog 365 Lucky Days. You can buy this pattern and other great patterns here. My next embroidery project is going to be one of my own design. In fact, I have it all set up and am ready to start embroidering; however, since it's part of the wedding plans, I won't be able to share it on my blog for a long long time. Raindrop Tea: February 2012

http://raindropteablog.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Artemis: the hunt for the perfect caterer. I am so excited! In an hour, I will be sitting down with B. to do our tasting with our wedding caterer! Oh, how I love to be fed delicious, locally sourced, thoughtfully prepared food. And today, I feel like a bottomless pit. I am insatiable! Will the peaches be in season for a grilled peach appetizer? I'm salivating just thinking about it. Links to this post. Sweaty, tough cardio x3. Lots of reading this week: Life of Pi and All Quiet on the Western Front.

Raindrop Tea: March 2012

http://raindropteablog.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

This week, the 10 list may turn into the twenty list. Despite a head cold, that can make things seem a bit glum at 3 am, I have a lot to be grateful for this week:. Going to Manzanita and Short Sands last weekend where the weather was sunny and spring-like. Putting on the wet-suit and body surfing, catching a few great rides into shore. Getting to stay in this house in Manzanita and savor this amazing view. Seeing whales feed about half a mile off-shore while we ate chowder at Mo's in Cannon Beach. So, I...

Raindrop Tea: 10 list

http://raindropteablog.blogspot.com/2012/06/10-list_15.html

Gratitude brings us closer to the present moment. We become more engaged and more awake when we fill our lives and hearts with gratitude. This is something worth striving for every day, every moment. 1 Iced tea made from loose-leaf darjeeling. 4 A kitty meowing for attention. 5 The first day of summer vacation. 6 The smell of incense. 7 A freshly cleaned house. 9 A morning bike ride. Have a wonderful weekend. xo. June 16, 2012 at 7:47 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hanging by a Thread.

Hands down, the best beekeeping book for beginners. This is the book I wish existed when I started beekeeping in 2008. Loaded with photos and step-by-step instructions, it’s one of the few books that will help you survive your first year, especially if you don’t have a mentor. Homegrown Honey Bees: An Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Beekeeping Your First Year. Photos, photos, photos! Interviews with local beeks. Winter is coming | mistress beek

https://mistressbeek.com/2012/10/06/winter-is-coming

Desperation is starting to set in. After a chilly morning today, the scene at my backyard hive was frenzied. As though all creatures knew that time was running out and that their last meal was rapidly approaching. In some cases, that meal was a juicy honeybee snatched in mid-air like candy at the Day of the Dead parade. Hay más tiempo que vida. Fried honeybees on a stick? Bees at the NM State Fair. But given the right “ear”, you might be able to hear the crunching sounds of life within those four wooden walls. This week, during Albuquerque’s wicked cold snap. I borrowed a “mechanic’s” stethoscope from a local computer hardware geek and tried to spy on my hive. ZERO. I heard nothing. Was it the stethoscope? Was it my bees? This morning, I k...

Chestnut Honey Financiers for Winter | mistress beek

Chestnut Honey Financiers for Winter. While honeybees hibernate for the winter, why not snuggle up with the fruits of their labor and toast the last harvest of the season. Like many beekeepers, my autumn harvest is typically dark and flavorful not unlike the renowned chestnut honeys of Italy. What to do with such robust flavors? Hazelnut is a perfect pairing for late season honey and when combined with the richness of a financier, it’s comforting beyond compare. Chestnut Honey and Hazelnut Financiers.

Bee-Friendly Gardening: How to Spray (If You Must). For many gardeners, this means spraying clouds of herbicides and pesticides that can kill or weaken neighborhood bees. Fancy a cool drink of Round-up, anyone? Here’s how you can minimize damage to neighborhood bees if you absolutely must spray chemicals in your yard or garden. And the brood is on! | mistress beek

https://mistressbeek.com/2013/02/14/and-the-brood-is-on

And the brood is on! It’s barely spring in Albuquerque, but already my backyard colony is ramping up for the big bloom! It hit 50 F this afternoon and the girls were soaring like tiny eagles. Which is all to say the queen has increased her egg production and the workers are out looking for food and water. Food? There’s none to be found yet in Albuquerque — not even the elm or sumac. Are blooming. But water? They’re drinking like champagne on New Year’s Eve. 2 Responses to “And the brood is on! You are co...
