Midwest Mom: Bummer
http://mdwestmom.blogspot.com/2011/03/bummer.html
I clean up the plates. Monday, March 21, 2011. The first time we sat down to eat ice cream together as a family I cried. It was the first time were able to go out. For ice cream together. Because of Harper's peanut allergy most ice cream places are completely off limits. Then, a few years ago, a seasonal place opened not far from our house. It sold ices, frozen custard, and was nut-free! I will never forget the first time we sat at one of those tables with Harper and enjoyed our treats. And it seems like...

Midwest Mom: Back to Normal, Just Like That
http://mdwestmom.blogspot.com/2007/11/back-to-normal-just-like-that.html
I clean up the plates. Saturday, November 03, 2007. Back to Normal, Just Like That. Well Harper is still fine. We haven't (knock on wood) even had a reemergence of hives, which the ER doc said was a possibility. I didn't think about it too much at the time (my mind was full) but now I am feeling angry about that. Whew, guess I had more to say than I realized. If you have read this far, you certainly deserve some photos. Here are a few of the day Harper and Matt went to get pumpkins:. I hate it when docto...

Midwest Mom: A Tough Day at the Office*
http://mdwestmom.blogspot.com/2008/08/tough-day-at-office.html
I clean up the plates. Tuesday, August 12, 2008. A Tough Day at the Office*. Michael was cranky today, generally difficult to please which happens from time to time. So already I was not particularly looking forward to taking him to Harper's dentist appointment this afternoon. Most of the time I don't take both of them to things like that - Matt or his parents or Auntie M will stay with one of the kids. It isn't that I can't. At one point I said to the hygienist, "At least only one of them is crying!

Midwest Mom: Food Allergy Awareness Week: Going Public
http://mdwestmom.blogspot.com/2009/05/food-allergy-awareness-week-going.html
I clean up the plates. Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Food Allergy Awareness Week: Going Public. Thank you to everyone who was so understanding of yesterday's grumpity post. It does seem like a good time to talk a little more about our forays into public spaces and how Harper's peanut allergy has influenced some of our decisions. I am going to address a couple of comments/questions specifically. So yes, there is a scenario in which the peanut butter a child eats at breakfast, if not cleaned up, could come to s...

Midwest Mom: In The Closet
http://mdwestmom.blogspot.com/2015/05/in-closet.html
I clean up the plates. Sunday, May 03, 2015. When my children were born my grandmother sent them lovely Vermont Teddy Bears. At some point Harper's bear lost its stuffing, but I believe it is possible to send them to the Teddy Bear Hospital, or some such place, for repair. It's a mystery to this day, how that bear lost his stuffing; however, he is no longer the only bear with a story. I totally thought that bear was house trained! That is so funny! Oh, creative play!
