Fiddle Dee Dee......

Saturday, January 9, 2010. Friday morning dawned with more cold, snow and ice. We hated leaving Mommy but had to get underway. We had breakfast together, sang a few of Mommy's favorite hymns for her, kissed her and headed out the door. We bundled up because we knew we were heading for the mountains and were going to be facing bitter cold. Kandy said we looked like a bunch of Penguins waddling up over the mountains of WV. Fiddle Dee Dee......: Day 1

http://www.ramblin-debbie.blogspot.com/2010/01/day-1.html

Thursday, January 7, 2010. Monday arrives. We're all off doing our normal daily routines but now walking is going to become a part of that routine. Vicki was the first to clock her miles.she headed to her basement and kept walking to keep herself warm. She walked for 20 minutes in the morning and another 25 in the afternoon. She was getting us off to a good start and encouraging the rest of us to get moving. 8221; she thought, “ONLY ½ mile? Tweety was a busy girl the first day with shoveling snow and doi...

Fiddle Dee Dee......: Flintstones...meet the Flintstones

http://www.ramblin-debbie.blogspot.com/2010/01/flintstonesmeet-flintstones.html

Thursday, January 7, 2010. Flintstones.meet the Flintstones. Now we're all picturing a Flintstones' car and our feet are making it go so we can see all our kids. Funny using the Flintstones image.I've been accused of having 'Barney Rubble' feet- -short, flat and wide. Our Flintsone journey begins and will take us on the following track:. We begin in Jefferson because all of Tweety’s kids are there in Jefferson. Now the long trek begins. Dilliner to Winchester, VA (Becky’s) is 160 miles. As for Kandy righ...

http://www.ramblin-debbie.blogspot.com/2010/01/days-2-and-3.html

Thursday, January 7, 2010. Days 2 and 3. No doubt, walking outside is much more enjoyable and goes faster than using DVDs and walking indoors. As Tweety said, "I felt like I'd walked ten miles when Leslie Sansone said the first mile was almost up." But she finished up those two miles and went out later in the day and walked two more. Our Flintstone car traveled 9.45 miles on day two for a total of 16.45 miles! Woo hoo—we met our first goal! We reached Day 3. There was a time when "The DeVault girls " act...

Monday, January 4, 2010. A journey of 3503 miles begins.‏. January 1, 2010- -New Year, new beginnings, new resolutions. The resolutions are easy to make but not so easy to keep- -unless you've got the help and support of family and the resolution is done as a team. Pam, as I stated earlier, is the 'master mind' of this. Pam's had heart problems, the exercise will do her heart good and hopefully prevent future problems. She, too, knows it will be easy to not find the time but knows it will do us a...Debbi...

marginalia gratae: A Beautiful Mind

http://marginalia-gratae.blogspot.com/2009/10/beautiful-mind.html

Friday, October 2, 2009. On June 11, 2008, my grandmother went to the hospital for a routine, preventative procedure, during which she sustained significant, unexpected trauma. That singular event changed not only her entire state of existence, but it altered our family dynamic and, from all accounts, reframed and redefined both ‘the personal’ and ‘the professional’ for the doctor who performed the procedure. While I was talking with my mom last night, she explained that the subject of nearly all these c...

marginalia gratae: May 2009

http://marginalia-gratae.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 30, 2009. What I Have to Show . . . Should have based my study on Ralph Ellison. Or maybe I just should have stayed in medicine . . . It’s a word- have you heard? Though I really kinda dig the theory. Foucault and Derrida can make me weary. Writer’s block, watch the clock,. Read a little more of Locke. Who knew it could inspire such self-loathing? Oh, suck it up and quit your damn bemoaning.). It’s the path that I chose,. Now I’m off to compose . . . Thursday, May 21, 2009. Still, some of t...

marginalia gratae: An experiment

http://marginalia-gratae.blogspot.com/2009/09/experiment.html

Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Bear with me for a moment, folks: I've grown bored with myself. Bored with my writing, which has grown ever more academic and dense. Bored with my thinking, which feels hopelessly unremarkable. Bored with my scholarship, even as it is becoming more relevant and interesting. Boo-frickin'-hoo. So this morning I had a thought. I scribbled a couple lines of verse. Light frost at morning's light,. The delicious scent of autumn's breath. Brings promise and renewal. Renee Peterson...

marginalia gratae: A Trio of Poems

http://marginalia-gratae.blogspot.com/2009/10/trio-of-poems.html

Monday, October 5, 2009. A Trio of Poems. Some days, it is better to listen . . . O hushed October morning mild,. Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;. Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,. Should waste them all. The crows above the forest call;. Tomorrow they may form and go. O hushed October morning mild,. Begin the hours of this day slow. Make the day seem to us less brief. Hearts not averse to being beguiled,. Beguile us in the way you know. Release one leaf at break of day;. At noon release another leaf;.

marginalia gratae: September 2008

http://marginalia-gratae.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 29, 2008. Just One: Number 8. A dear friend and colleague recently posted a MySpace bulletin that included the following question:. 8 Thoughts on the presidential campaign? This is my attempt at answering it. Make no mistake: this election is of monumental importance. Still, I fully appreciate the fact that the executive branch is much larger than the president, and the election is much larger than its primary players. Thursday, September 25, 2008. As I mentioned in a previous post.

marginalia gratae: April 2009

http://marginalia-gratae.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 24, 2009. From NPR's All Things Considered: April 23, 2009. The segment begins, "Thirty-eight years ago this week . . .". Senator John Kerry this week chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the same committee he once stood before, voicing his opposition to military action in Vietnam. A different war, a different time, a remarkable juxtaposition. History, or perhaps our desire to see patterns and construct narratives, certainly lends itself to poetics. Opinions on the war aside, wit...

Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Need I say anything else . . . I'M A PROUD MEMBER OF STEEERS NATION! Thursday, January 1, 2009. Salt, Bread, and Silver. As per my family’s tradition, I sent my husband out in the sub-zero temperatures just after midnight to retrieve the “New Year’s Bucket,” a container holding salt, silver, and bread, which I set out on the back stoop on New Year’s Eve. Did I mention that my husband is a good sport? I’d say that’s a pretty good way to start the New Year. Katy Southern: Harmo...

marginalia gratae: Eight Years

http://marginalia-gratae.blogspot.com/2009/09/eight-years.html

Friday, September 11, 2009. I'm doing what many are doing today: remembering. It comes to me in snapshots now, only eight years later, rather than in a neat and consistent narrative. Maybe that is how I experienced it, through the burdened silence and plethoric fog of disbelief and nascent grief. Snapshots. That striking, clear sky seems to have worked its way into our collective memory. Calm, still, unchanging blue. I finally reached my mother some time later. She hadn't yet heard. That evening, Kurt an...

ramblin acres farm

The old "Blands Ramblin Acres" farmhouse was built in 1910. It is located about a mile east of Taylor Texas. We purchased the house and a small acreage in September 2008. The farm is listed as a Texas Century Farm and is identified by a historical marker. The house has under gone some renovation, but there is still much work to be done. It still has much of its original charm and character.

Happy Trails

This blog follows Keith and Donna Cameron as they enjoy retirement. Sunday, January 8, 2017. I got the truck serviced last week. While there, I asked if they inspect travel trailers, and they do. I'll take the trailer in when the weather improves next week and get it inspected. But that doesn't mean we will stop traveling. In fact, all the trips I'm currently planning are without our trailer. Sunday, January 1, 2017. Getting Back to Normal. Happy New Year to all! We hope to resume traveling this month&#4...

Ramblin'

Thursday, May 1, 2008. When I see older ladies driving around in muscle cars, or cadillacs, or just any giant old boat of a car. I like to imagine that the car was once their husband's, but that he is now dead, or something of the like. (Mb I am really morbid, idk? Hanging out at my best friend's house watching tv and eating sandwiches. Getting my toenails painted. Phone calls to my best guy friend who lives too far away as a way to start the day off. Not having a thick skin. Things I do not like.
