Life in the Ag Industry

Life in the Ag Industry. Tuesday, 31 January 2012. Well, I made it back from an amazing trip to Switzerland and now the calving season has begun! It is my favourite time of the year, and even though we are not supposed to officially start until the 5th of February, yesterday we had our first calf, a bull calf, LBH 1Z. Even though we are not supposed to start for another few days, I guess it has technically begun! Dad also built six more calving stalls in preparation of those very possibly busy days!

Life in the Ag Industry: Boy from Girl

http://rancherruth.blogspot.com/2011/08/boy-from-girl.html

Life in the Ag Industry. Wednesday, 17 August 2011. Our sorting of boy from girl lets us kill two birds with one stone when we pick calves for the field days and it is a precautionary measure to prevent stuff we don't want to happen! 23 August 2011 at 07:32. I am enjoying reading your blog Ruth - I think it is amazing that you all are able to make it to those field days with calves - I was tired out from the trip to Hardisty and I didnt even take cattle! Congratulations on doing so well in Cutknife!

Life in the Ag Industry: September 2011

http://rancherruth.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Life in the Ag Industry. Saturday, 3 September 2011. It's been a while since I've blogged, life's been busy and the days are very quickly disappearing until I have to go back to school and this thought does not excite me all that much. A few weeks ago now we performed one of my favorite jobs to do on the ranch which included preg testing our cows and heifers! We spent the better part of four days checking if our 612 females are going to have a baby next year, with 450 being cows and 162 heifers. What I L...

Life in the Ag Industry. Monday, 31 October 2011. I'm pretty sure that it was yesterday that I was just about to start my third year of university and I blogged last, but it's actually already the end of October, crazy how time flies! Anyway, it's been forever but not much has really gone on in the last two months besides lots and lots of school work! I am currently in my third year at the University of Lethbridge continuing my pre-vet! I hope all of your life's are going well, no matter what your doing!

Life in the Ag Industry: Photos

http://rancherruth.blogspot.com/p/photos.html

Life in the Ag Industry. I will be posting pictures on this page of my life in the agriculture industry! May 28, 2011. The skies are still dark and it's very wet but at least the grass is green, and I'm sure the cows much prefer this over snow, hopefully the sun will come soon! 65279; . Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Todays "flashback" is of me . about 4-5yrs . might be the last time I went riding in a dress. Gotta love them boots . I believe I still have them, tucked away in a trunk somewhere. Hope everyone is having a great weekend - - I am off to finish up that haying I mentioned earlier - going to feel so good when all those bales are piled!

Friday, October 14, 2011. Friday Flashback - The Auction. Would have been the closet auction to our ranch). I have always liked this picture - with the rail cars in the background - the woman working the cattle in the ring on horseback (who I believe may be my cousin Alice) - those guys leaning over the roof of the stands look fairly comfortable, though that roof seems to have quite a sag in it! Fall calf sales have begun here- and the market is stronger than we have seen in years! I look forward to seei...

Jenkins Ranche: Happy Fathers Day

http://jenkinsranche.blogspot.com/2011/06/happy-fathers-day.html

Saturday, June 18, 2011. Bob Jenkins - 1942 on "Pone". I have always loved the chance to spend time with Dad and the cows - when I was little instead of watching TV we would pull out old Hereford Digests and "place" the cattle in the ad's. So much of who I am today I owe to him - and his encouragement. Here's to all those Ranch Dads - who taught us how to fix fence, rope bulls, tie knots, drive trucks (then get "un-stuck"! Thursday, November 3, 2011. Farmfair 2011 - Hittin the Road! 65279; . It is that time of year again - we are hittin the road on Saturday and heading to Farmfair in Edmonton. Things have been busy as usual here - shipping calves, vaccinating cows etc - not as much time as we would like to work on our "show cattle". BUT - we are getting closer to being ready every day - even got their heads clipped yesterday! My "old girl" gettin' a haircut - not sure she like this too much - but she did pretty good!

Friday, July 8, 2011. Friday Flashback - Calgary Stampede. 65279;. Well - - I thought with the Calgary Stampede. Kicking off today - it was only fitting that I use a Stampede "flashback". Some people may wonder why we still continue to brand our cattle with the "J" - while there are a number of reasons for this - I believe a lot of it is that we are proud of the cattle we raise - - and we are not afraid to put our own "stamp" on them. It is some of the best advertising we can get! 65279;. Jenkins Ran...
