Go Red 10K Race →. March 21, 2011. I parked the car at the Fish Hatchery. Just downstream of Hazel Avenue and the Nimbus Dam, and walked down to the river. The Nimbus Dam and Folsom Dam effectively prevent native fish from heading further upstream to spawn, so this hatchery was created to mitigate and maintain the fishery. On a good day when the fish are running, the shore can be nearly shoulder-to-shoulder with anglers, so I think the hatchery does a pretty fair job at its mission! Go Red 10K Race →.

This weekend’s adventure was laid back — I started with a state 4×4 association convention in Visalia on Friday and Saturday, and then drove to Moorpark/Somis on Sunday over a snow-just-melted Grapevine, and then mosey-ed back home indirectly, by way of California’s Pacific Coast Highway PCH-1 and Highway 101, a little more inland.
