Neil Gaiman, American Gods | Random Book Reviews
https://randombookreviews.wordpress.com/2008/03/01/neil-gaiman-american-gods
The title says it all. Neil Gaiman, American Gods. Ahem, cough, cough. Okay, so my last post was more of a rant than I expected, but I still stand by it, despite the surly curmudgeon quality of it. So, in my quest to find an engaging book out of the mainstream of The New York Times Book Review. And its delightful ilk, I finally took the advice of many people over the last few years, many of them students, and read Gaiman’s American Gods. I had read some of The Sandman. And what a thrill! Where do they go?

The title says it all. Sherman Alexie, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. A colleague of mine lent me this wonderful novel, which won the National Book Foundation Award for Young People’s Literature. With the exception of the. I can say emphatically that the latter is the case. I will admit that I have a bias here–I find Alexie. To be one of the strongest writers today, and I teach his work nearly every semester. I also thoroughly enjoyed his other 2007 novel,. The Absolutely True Diary.

The title says it all. Brocke Clarke, An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England. Sam Pulsifer made me furious. Pulsifer, the narrator of Clarke’s thoroughly engaging novel An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England. That is, does a story directly affect a reader? At one point, he concludes, “Of course a story could produce a direct effect. Why would anyone tell one if it didn’t? Perhaps, he later notes, people read “not so that they would feel. To TrackBack this entry is:. An Arsonis...
Clive Thompson, “Take the Red Book” | Random Book Reviews
https://randombookreviews.wordpress.com/2008/02/10/clive-thompson-take-the-red-book-7
The title says it all. Clive Thompson, “Take the Red Book”. No, “Take the Red Book” is not a novel, nor is it a memoir, biography, book of poems, or work of literary criticism. It’s an essay, and a short one at that. But I’m driven to comment about it because it struck me more than many of the books I have recently read–or haven’t read, or won’t read. Published in the February issue of Wired. Where are the gardens with poisoned daughters (or is this poison a deception of our senses? Where are the Melvill...

Random Book Muses | Attacking the Neverending TBR Pile, book by book
Attacking the Neverending TBR Pile, book by book. Review: Optical Delusions in Deadtown by Ann Charles. Posted by Random Book Muses. I loved the first book so very much! Again, I must stress, I don’t understand these stupid covers at all! Her dedication to being independent and her children that I so admired in book one really seems to take a back burner in this installment. Yes, you can be single, have kids, and fancy a man….yes, you can even sleep with said man….but I felt that ...Until next time….

Random Book Reviews
Reviews of random books. Some are books that I've chosen simply because I like and recommend them. Others are books that I am reviewing as part of a publisher's blogger review program. Monday, November 11, 2013. Life Resurrected by Jesse Birkey. In fact, Birkey's job didn't make this easier, it just made the choice more frequent, and the results more exciting. Jesse Birkey does an amazing job of sharing his own testimony without turning himself into the hero. It is very clear that the purpose of his ...
