A Random Walk down Grub Street. Confessions of a would-be foodie and occasionally successful cook. Recipes and Cooking Attempts. Disappointed in Giles Coren. Hiatus…and the easiest, tastiest chicken ever →. Cold plate warms the heart. June 17, 2007. I finally got out of the house on Saturday, which was a good thing as cabin fever was starting to set in. I had to go up to Lismore in Co Waterford, to do some interviews at the Immrama. Eamonn’s is a proper pub, not very big, kind of old-fashioned but ...

A Random Walk down Grub Street. Confessions of a would-be foodie and occasionally successful cook. Recipes and Cooking Attempts. Should cosmetics smell like food? Cold plate warms the heart →. Disappointed in Giles Coren. May 26, 2007. I’ve long been a fan of Giles Coren. But I’ve just seen him in a TV ad for Bird’s Eye. I can’t believe he took the frozen pea shilling. For shame, Giles, for shame. It’s nearly as bad as Carol Vorderman doing those ads for loan consolidation products. Am really enjoying th...

Should cosmetics smell like food? Mmm…Michelin stars make me happy. May 21, 2007. Finally, as promised, a run-through of our two-star Michelin experience in France. As I mentioned, we had lunch in L’Oasis. In La Napoule near Cannes while on our holliers a few weeks back. They all appeared to be at least twenty years older and many hundreds...

Culinary Travels of a Kitchen Goddess: Stella's Cake
http://culinarytravelsofakitchengoddess.blogspot.com/2007/11/stella-cake.html
Culinary Travels of a Kitchen Goddess. Monday, 5 November 2007. Originally uploaded by Kitchen Goddess. Stella, a work colleague and good friend of mine is left her job as a receptionist at the hospital where I work to run a pub with her husband. On Friday we had a little gathering for her and I made the cake. A very apt cake it was too - Choco. Guinness Cake, adapted from. Lawson. The cake was soaked with a Guinness syrup and then topped with a creme fraiche. And white chocolate topping. What I'm Readin...
little bird eats...: Daring Bakers challenge - festive yule log and meringue mushroooms
http://littlebirdeats.blogspot.com/2007/12/daring-bakers-challenge-festive-yule.html
The kitchen blog of an English girl who's just moved to Ireland after living in Scotland for 13 years. Sunday, December 23, 2007. Daring Bakers challenge - festive yule log and meringue mushroooms. Here's my first completed challenge for the Daring Bakers. A yule log with meringue mushrooms nestling around the edges for a bit of woodland scene-setting. However, when I initially read through the challenge, I have to admit, there were a couple of parts that I found daunting:. And I don't like coffee. In th...

The kitchen blog of an English girl who's just moved to Ireland after living in Scotland for 13 years. Thursday, January 03, 2008. New year, new look. Oooh - I've wibbled, wobbled and wavered, and I'm probably going to regret this but. I'm jumping ship to Wordpress. I've been seduced by cleaner-looking templates and functionality. By the fact that I can have little tabs at the top of my homepage to organise links, recipes etc. And a tag cloud. I'm so fickle. Labels: bye bye Blogger. What am I doing here?

The kitchen blog of an English girl who's just moved to Ireland after living in Scotland for 13 years. Monday, November 26, 2007. There's obviously something weird going on with me and technology at the moment. First off, I managed to mist up my camera lens when trying to take a picture of some soup (which was completely tasteless by the way and somehow makes the misted lens situation worse - cos it would have been worth it if the soup tasted great? Now my computer has gone kaput. The icecream man cometh.

The kitchen blog of an English girl who's just moved to Ireland after living in Scotland for 13 years. Sunday, May 20, 2007. Q2 - goodbye Edinburgh, hello Ireland. You’ve mentioned that you’re moving to Ireland. Are you finding that a move to a whole new land mass is more challenging than a normal house move? Many moons ago, I met my Irish husband-to-be in Edinburgh. And we decided to set up home here, get married, all that kind of boring domestic stuff. After talking it over with Mr B., I decided to...

The kitchen blog of an English girl who's just moved to Ireland after living in Scotland for 13 years. Monday, July 30, 2007. Here comes the sun. OK, I don’t usually claim to have god-like qualities or wizardly talents (although reading the last Harry Potter book gave me some funny dreams) but I think I may have summoned the sunshine by baking these lovely orange and blueberry muffins. Orange and blueberry muffins. From Baking – From My Home to Yours. Grated zest and juice of 1 orange. 1/3 cup of sugar.

The kitchen blog of an English girl who's just moved to Ireland after living in Scotland for 13 years. Friday, September 28, 2007. Take a look at this - isn't it pretty? Irish moss, or carrageen moss, is on my list of 'things to play with in the kitchen' but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Mind you, that's a long list. It's also interesting to see all the different names for it in different languages. In which case, the cook did it - of course. Dish of the day. Overheard in a Dingle tourist shop:.
little bird eats...: The brownie syndrome
http://littlebirdeats.blogspot.com/2007/12/brownie-syndrome.html
The kitchen blog of an English girl who's just moved to Ireland after living in Scotland for 13 years. Sunday, December 30, 2007. We're about to head off to Limerick to see in the new year - but I've just got enough time to squeeze in one last post for 2007. People get just a wee bit possessive about their brownie recipes. On two different occasions recently, I was chatting to some friends, both exceptional cooks, and mentioned that I’d stumbled across a fantastic brownie recipe. Erm How to answer that?

The kitchen blog of an English girl who's just moved to Ireland after living in Scotland for 13 years. Saturday, December 22, 2007. Daring Bakers challenge - a work in progress. If anyone's dropping by to see my results for the latest Daring Bakers. Please, please, please come back tomorrow for the finished item :-). The yule log has just gone into the fridge to firm up (only a bit of cracking at each end, phew! And I'm now off to whip up some meringue mushrooms. But here are the results so far. A wodge ...

A Random Walk down Grub Street. Confessions of a would-be foodie and occasionally successful cook. Recipes and Cooking Attempts. Hiatus…and the easiest, tastiest chicken ever. July 28, 2007. As anyone taking any notice may have realised, this site is taking a little break. Call it a diet, maybe. Normal service to resume at some unspecified future point. In the meantime, here is the one dish that I probably cook more than any other. It’s more or less from Nigel Slater’s The 30-minute Cook. June 17, 2007.
