We went for a drive and sightseeing to White Rock, south of the city just this side of the U.S. border, stopping at a neat old farm-yard on the banks of the Fraser River. Sweet little place! I'll be turning 50 this December (I know! I don't look it! A wander around the University grounds is always interesting, looking at the new buildings (and there are always new ones! And enjoying the grounds and artwork.

Saturday, March 29, 2014. Today's outing was a heritage walking tour in an area we've rarely spent much time in - part of East Vancouver. We started out in a little park where there's an extensive mosaic walkway, meant to represent a stream that used to run nearby. LOTS of different things shown in the mosaic, including our Maple Leaf. Saturday, November 30, 2013. A little bit of Christmas sight-seeing today:. First for a meander along Commercial Drive, where they had a few Christmassy things happening, though the rain really put a damper on it. Some ice sculptures - Commercial Drive is known for its coffee, hence the mug. Vancouver Opera had a few singers providing beautiful carolling! Sunday, August 24, 2014. Sooo, there's this barge, right? There's a barge anchored in one of the coves along the shore - it's got what looks from afar like a ramshackle pile of lumber crudely slapped together. On the pathway overlooking the cove is a sign, inviting you to take a ferry over for a visit. This I then did! Turns out it's an art work, meant to symbolize some of the features of the port and industrialized coast, and is made of salvaged materials. Some bits show signs of having been in a fire!

Sunday, April 12, 2015. On Friday, I took the day off to take advantage of the weather, for a drive to see the tulip festival a couple of hours east of the city. Along the way, we stopped at a heritage village, built on the edge of the Fraser River. To avoid floods, the main buildings and houses were built on stilts. Friday, October 31, 2014. At 16, Chloe is pushing the trick-or-treat boundaries, but she forges on. She loves Halloween and dressed up three times in three different outfits. She dressed as a dalmation for a Cheer party, as an 80s grad for school today, and a bride with a masquerade mask tonight. Thank goodness she takes responsibility for assembling her own costumes. That would be my grad dress. I don't remember why I chose a dress that drew attention to my mid-section. Can't take his eyes off his candy.
