Trey HIBd | Paws to Train
https://paws2train.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/trey-hibd
A journey in training for obedience and herding. October 1, 2012. Yesterday, Trey earned her last leg in the Intermediate level B course on ducks. Whew! In July, we had entered both days of the weekend but the first day was cancelled due to extreme heat. She had a really nice run on that Sunday, even if her score didn’t reflect it. One or two bumps but we were able to handle them and qualify for our second leg. I also entered her in Advanced A course ducks as a trial run before the specialty. We̵...

A journey in training for obedience and herding. Shutting a dog down. May 12, 2015. It isn’t hard to shut your dog down, lots of people do it. Shutting a dog down means ‘taking the wind out of their sails’. It is an effective way to let a dog know they have no choices, and it is your way, period. Family pet owners to seasoned professionals are capable of doing this, mostly when their desires are stronger than their observational skills. If you have competed in a dog sport. 1,126 more words. 8220;The real...

A journey in training for obedience and herding. The “Thinker”. May 27, 2013. 8220;I don’t like a dog who thinks! This is something I’d heard in the past and it makes my heart break for the dog. You guessed it, that dog is a “thinker”. When she sees something new or somewhat unfamiliar she pauses a distance away and examines it with nose, eyes, and ears. If it passes inspection she goes up to it and sniffs it one last time and then goes on without a second thought. From → General Training Thoughts. Pedig...

A journey in training for obedience and herding. The Wrath of 1000 Demons. July 23, 2011. There are two things that I absolute will not tolerate from my dogs: counter-surfing and not respecting fences, baby gates, or any other boundary. Are these life-or-death issues? Not really, but they are something that I insist that they understand and respect. Because the Wrath of 1000 Demons would descend upon the dogs’ heads if things were pulled off the counter. I also use baby gates to confine my dogs to a spec...

Get to Know Me. The Border Collie Experience. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened –Anatole France. And They Can FLY! June 19, 2012 by Kat. The first hatch of ducklings are now almost 9 weeks old. They are fully fledged and are of the age where I call them “teenagers”. And they have learned that they can fly! Then I figured, why not be proactive instead of reactive and just finish clipping the rest of the five teenagers and also band them? Bigger than their momma! So hop...
