Random Thoughts Escaping: The End of the Eighties, Track 08

http://randomthoughtsescaping.blogspot.com/2010/02/end-of-eighties-track-08.html

Thursday, February 11, 2010. The End of the Eighties, Track 08. 8220;The Spy in the Cab”. Swing the Heartache: The BBC Sessions. Claustrophobic paranoia. That’s probably the most succinct way to describe this Orwellian descent into terror. Close your eyes for even a second and you’re in that small, coffin-like cab on a damp London night, headlights reflecting back too brightly off the low-hanging fog. And your mind starts playing tricks on you… Is the camera really there? Can you trust your own judgment?

Random Thoughts Escaping: The End of the Eighties, Track 30

Wednesday, July 3, 2013. The End of the Eighties, Track 30. 8220;Party of the First Part”. Swing the Heartache: The BBC Sessions. When I worked at the now long-gone Digital Daze CD store in Akron, I rarely took home an actual paycheck. I was always one for being compensated in the form of shiny little discs enfolded in cardboard longboxes. Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape. The Sky’s Gone Out. And Burning from the Inside. With the “ripped” CD insert motif and full of extras. And Swing the Heartache.

Monday, January 25, 2010. The End of the Eighties, Track 03. Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven. In the wake of Bauhaus. 8217; dissolution in the early ’80s, band members went their separate ways with various solo and one-off projects. As the story goes, in 1985 when Peter Murphy failed to show up for a proposed Bauhaus reunion rehearsal, three-fourths of the band decided to jam anyway and Love and Rockets was born. Amid the psychedelia-glam mash-up of Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven. Avoiding the Goth prot...

http://randomthoughtsescaping.blogspot.com/2010/02/end-of-eighties-track-10.html

Thursday, February 25, 2010. The End of the Eighties, Track 10. 8220;Gravitate to Me”. I remember dancing to the 12-inch versions of “Perfect” and “Infected” at Thursday’s long before I ever made it onto Bowling Green’s campus. In fact, the albums that spawned those original songs, the US release of Soul Mining. Are pretty amazing, but it wasn’t until I heard Mind Bomb. I remember our next door neighbor in Chapman Hall was named Matt, and that he let me borrow his Mind Bomb. 8221; It wasn’t hubris,...

July 24, 2015. Junk Culture Rabbit Holes. Junk Culture Rabbit Holes: Action Jackson. Action Jackson was his name! We know this because the jaunty jingle of his commercials told us so. He was not, however, Carl Weathers. That Action Jackson was a totally different guy. Though, come on, where's his toy line? I wonder if they got each other's mail? What sort of bold adventures? How about flying a personal helicopter pack, driving a stunt cycle, or being a firefighter in a heat resistant suit? Well, really y...

August 27, 2015. I'm late getting to this, but a sad farewell to Yvonne Craig. she starred opposite the Bat, the King, and the Kirk (two Kirks, actually. James T., sure, but also Tommy Kirk in Mars Needs Women. And held her own every time. More importantly to my profession, she was probably the first and greatest Pop Culture Librarian of all, and she will be missed. Rest in peace, Ms. Craig, and thanks. And to finally answer the musical question, whose baby was. August 02, 2015. RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Easy as A*B*C.knitting a baby sweater. There seems to be lots of babies being born in my little circle of friends, and lately they are all boys. I've wanted to branch out into knitting something besides socks, shawls and scarves, so when I saw @SoCalMeaghan.
