I study gap junctions. Gap junctions are channels that connect cells to other cells. They are essential for development and function of most human tissues. Because they fulfill a very specific but widely employed biological function gap junctions have potential in health and biological engineering applications. In the brain, astrocytes (see. Glial cell types are the counterpart to neurons. One major type of glial cell- the astrocyte- is more or less as numerous as neurons in the human brain.

Obtained my PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Neurobiology working on the glial cells of the worm. Graduated from Cornell University in 2004 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Participated in the sport of wrestling from age four through undergraduate university. Married and have a two year old daughter.
