Prairie Garden: Contingency plan the thousandth
http://raingarden.blogspot.com/2015/05/contingency-plan-thousandth.html
Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Contingency plan the thousandth. I thought more about my What a diff. Post and realized that, duh, I now have FOUR children, ages ranging from 2 years old to almost 10 years old. In 2009, I "only" had two children, an almost 4 year old and a two year old. Wow. Double the laundry, double the food prep, quadruple the clean up and fighting. No wonder. One would have thought that was obvious. Furthermore, as a homeschooling mama of four, everything. It feels like we are all flounderi...
Prairie Garden: April 2015

Tuesday, April 28, 2015. I recently listened to a fashion podcast when it dawned on me: the people who are really into. Style and fashion are the ones that are very interested. In it It's something they really enjoy. I thought there was something wrong with me. I used to assume it was a deficiency not be imbued with any sense in this area, but now I have the maturity and experience to realize that it takes all kinds. We all have our own specialties. What a gift. Mind blown. Again. Labels: Live and Learn.

Prairie Garden: January 2015
http://raingarden.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 21, 2015. I'm sure you could tell by my recent post. That I have been working through what I've come to call a "mothering slump" in recent weeks and months. Too true. It has been hard, slogging through the day, feeling like all I do is break up ugly fights and scold young boys. But then, like the clearing of a summer storm, everything has gotten better in a matter of days. It seems like everything has worked together in conjunction to refresh my weary spirit. The Story of Marco Polo.
Prairie Garden: May 2015
http://raingarden.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 29, 2015. A lovely rhubarb sauce. We've been enjoying eating out of the garden again: lettuce, spinach, scallions, parsnips, cilantro, dill, rhubarb. It has been so delicious and quite refreshing, such a nice change of pace from the winter's cabbage salads and sauerkraut. My favorite treat this spring has been rhubarb sauce, sweetened with raisins and dates. 1-15 lbs of rhubarb. A big handful of raisins, chopped. A small handful of pitted dates, chopped. 2-ish cups boiling water. Or the fact ...
Prairie Garden: October 2014
http://raingarden.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 31, 2014. Like the crack of the whip, I snap attack. I am on a major reorganization and de-cluttering binge. MAJOR. I have had enough. Let me count the ways:. Sorted through sock and undies drawers, the pajama drawer: match, storage, thrift. Cleaned the wooden shelf formerly in storage in our quonset (gutted from Blaine's parents' kitchen after their remodel), brought to the basement, organized ALL boy shoes, sandals, mud boots, snow boots by like-kind and size. Start getting ruthless wit...
Prairie Garden: September 2014
http://raingarden.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 15, 2014. The inspiration to blog always hits during impossible times. My mind is scattered and nothing comes when I actually sit down to do it. This might have something to do with three fellas going bonkers down the hall: Diego, Truen, and Eliah. Jamie is blissfully asleep and this is the remnants of my Quiet Time. I've found that my mind has decreasing amounts of available space for . . . what? Ah well. Enough complaints. This weekend we watched a few videos from years gone&#...It ma...
Prairie Garden: Tidbits
http://raingarden.blogspot.com/2015/06/tidbits.html
Wednesday, June 10, 2015. We had an expander installed into Diego's mouth last week to widen his palate and make room for all his teeth to grow in. The reason for it: Can we be well fed, but malnourished? The teeth tell the tale. His appliance looks identical to the one pictured. I am convinced that this is the crux of the issue for all of us. It feels terrific to have it back. Jamie with a gosling in mid-May. Our half-grown chicks and goslings are also "the best ever! Had to herd the geese up into their...
Prairie Garden: Straight from the horse's mouth
http://raingarden.blogspot.com/2015/06/straight-from-horses-mouth.html
Sunday, June 21, 2015. Straight from the horse's mouth. I read the following poem aloud during lunch today -. Hear what the mournful linnets say. Hear what the mournful linnets say:. We built our nest compact and warm,. But cruel boys came round our way. And took our summerhouse by storm. They crushed the eggs so neatly laid;. So now we sit with drooping wing,. And watch the ruin they have made,. Too late to build, too sad to sing.". Ambleside Online: Christina Rossetti Poems. We are in this poem! Natura...
Prairie Garden: July 2015
http://raingarden.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Gigantic blow-out catch-up post for the entire month of July. July 2015 . . . holy smokes . . . what a month. What a doozy. It started off with Jamie's plunge into a secondary infection from a minor cold, which took him out for three weeks. Including the initial cold and in-between time where he never quite "came around" (he seemed tired and lackluster), it was an entire month. Saying goodbye - Jamie wouldn't be in the picture. Otherwise, life has been a whole lot of this -. Our g...
