Tuesday, 3 May 2011. Resist the tide of packaged popular sentiment and hold onto your own judgements. The paranoia is in bloom,. The PR transmissions will resume,. They'll try to push drugs to keep us all dumbed down,. And hope that we will never see the truth around,. Another promise, another seed,. They will not c...

Fumbling Towards Geekdom: June 2011
http://fumbling-towards-geekdom.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 30, 2011. They just created a new job so that they can hire one of the men. This is someone who is universally acknowledged to be a pain in the arse and to have done quite badly at the interviews. (The one who said our students suck.) So he would not have been a good choice for a teaching job. So they created a job with no teaching responsibilities so they can hire him anyway. 7 people have Views. Fumbling Towards Geekdom: Should have seen this coming
http://fumbling-towards-geekdom.blogspot.com/2011/08/should-have-seen-this-coming.html
Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Should have seen this coming. This time last year:. Here's a new thing! The university executive (Vice Chancellor and friends) would like to know about issues affecting the 'man on the ground'. Specifically, early career researchers. What would improve our lives? Not the actual example, but I don't want this to be too googleable. They say. That sounds excellent. This is exactly the sort of initiative we would support! We should have listened to the subtext here.). After months o...

Fumbling Towards Geekdom: December 2010
http://fumbling-towards-geekdom.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 24, 2010. Have inspired me to. Describe my Christmas dinner plans too.*. This year it is just us. Just the Geekman and me. But will that stop us from cooking as though we are having 20 dinner guests? No, it will not. In fact, we will have EXTRA TIME FOR COOKING! Because of no dinner guests. Hah. We plan to start off by piling the table with small snack-like things, which we will eat throughout the day. This means:. Smoked salmon spread with cream cheese and rolled up into little parcels.

Fumbling Towards Geekdom: Oh well
http://fumbling-towards-geekdom.blogspot.com/2011/06/oh-well.html
Sunday, June 26, 2011. I didn't get the job. But it did go to a woman, and she is definitely the best qualified for the position. People have been talking about this position as "B—'s job" ever since it was first advertised. And the short-term one has been offered to another woman, who is also a good fit. So it's quite upsetting that the feelings aren't reciprocated. I don't know what to do about that. Before posting a comment, please read this. Filed under: academia macademia. You know you want to!

Fumbling Towards Geekdom: And now they want to know...

Wednesday, June 29, 2011. And now they want to know. Whether I can teach some courses for them next semester. Teaching is not included in my current contract. Unfortunately, I can't just suggest they get the people they just hired. To teach these classes since the new hires don't start until the beginning of next year. But damn! But did I say damn! Yes, I believe I did. But I'll say it again. Before posting a comment, please read this. Filed under: academia macademia. Omg they suck and I hate them for you.

Fumbling Towards Geekdom: StyleyGeek gets a comments policy
http://fumbling-towards-geekdom.blogspot.com/2006/06/styleygeek-gets-comments-policy.html
Tuesday, June 06, 2006. StyleyGeek gets a comments policy. I think it's about time I had a comments policy, or at least a more explicit one. So here goes:. I like you already. After all, you came this far. So don't take any of the rest of this personally. The other thing I am trying to avoid is future employers googling my name and coming up with this blog. I prefer them to come to the conclusion that hiring me was a mistake later rather than sooner (like, after. Before posting a comment, please read this.

Fumbling Towards Geekdom: September 2010
http://fumbling-towards-geekdom.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 26, 2010. We just caught a student who had posted flyers around the department(! Asking to buy an essay for one of her classes. Problem is, she hadn't had any takers yet, so hasn't actually committed the crime. Can we "prosecute" her (i.e. kick her out) for planning to cheat. I think an elaborate sting operation would have been more fun, myself. 3 people have Views. Before posting a comment, please read this. Filed under: academia macademia. Friday, September 24, 2010. Sunday, 31 March 2013. What Easter means to me. Was Jesus divine or not? The Christian observance of Easter raises complex issues, which deserve serious consideration, one of which relates to whether he was resurrected, and therefore divine - or not. Links to this post.
