I chose to go with a very simple design that I could cut out by hand relatively easily. Each foot was glued to a bottom corner of the box using two clamps:. The corner inlays are also finished gluing and can now be sanded down. After sanding, everything is looking pretty good. The next step will be to glue the feet on and route the edges of the top. The main shape was cut out on the bandsaw then slowly shaped out with hand knives. Once most of the cutting was done, the blade was slimmed down with a hand plane. I’ve been working in a 10×5 box recently made out of oak with walnut inlays. Each side was cut to size and then routed in order to create extra strength for a simple corner joint. I only have a small hand router (no table) that isn’t really designed for this kind of work, so I had to get a bit creative and create my own guide in order to get a straight cut. April 13, 2014.

A photo blog of Pippin's wood shop projects. The shop is getting setup. Middot; February 21, 2014. This is the space I have. It’s small but works well, about 12×18. I’m slowly working in organizing it and obtaining some of the necessary tools, such as my new bandsaw and sliding compound miter. The primary component of the shop is the central work bench that’s placed such that I can work from all sides. It’s a bench I built out of rock maple during high school.
