Thursday, September 27, 2007. For my W233 class last week, we had to write a rhetorical analysis paper on a topic the professor provided. One of the topics of choice was a video on the media and women's body image that was posted on YouTube. It was produced by a student in a women's studies class, so I thought that was interesting. My frustration with what I've known to be feminism is the same frustration I face with other social movements toward 'tolerance': what if an individual is comfortable fitting into the accepted social norm? What if a woman is. Perfectly content being a stay-at-home wife, raising children, washing dishes, and doing laundry? What if, in doing those things, she finds personal fulfillment? Tuesday, October 2, 2007. A couple of weekends ago I made a caramel-apple upside-down cake for my boyfriend (which he thought was delicious, thank you - and he's a chef, so that's a big deal! Upon further inspection of the magazine I was actually encouraged to find an advertisement for the Betty Crocker Cookbook for Women. The cookbook lists various stages of development throughout the lifespan and provides healthy recipes. The best part is that it's all geared toward women. Pink flower on the front cover.

Wednesday, November 14, 2007. The funny thing about good old mister Freud is that he didn't address female gender role development until much later. I guess he just forgot about women? Sunday, October 14, 2007. These people represent women to be sex symbols, meant solely for the pleasure of men. In no way is a relationship (beyond sexual) encouraged through the depiction of women; they are just meant to symbolize pleasure.
