Trained and practised as a painter, I have since 1981 concentrated on relief printmaking as the medium where I could best explore my interest in colour, in multiples. Particularly I find interesting the restrictions of the reduction method of making prints. I have moved on from making large lino prints using the reduction method, to engraving small endgrain wood blocks. Design and Layout 2003. Content 2010 Raymond Higgs.

My interests, in the '60s, were with hunting for totally abstract shapes as ENCLOSURES, where the boundary of these enclosed positive shapes can be thought of as a negative CONTINUOUS LINE. In the search for these shapes I found etching useful, as resists (in the printing sense) could define a negative enclosure; therefore black and white etchings were often starting points for paintings. The title, CONTINUOUS LINE, CORNERS AND ENCLOSURES, omits to mention one thing: a preoccupation with MINIMAL COLOUR.

We wanted to keep the overall theme of the site similar, as it matches the clubs branding, but we had lots of scope to update the design in other ways. Most of the old site ran on outdated technology. All the content was stripped out and put into a brand new framework, which also allowed us to make a much more versatile layout.
