Our little bugs in the big blue room. Growing into the family. Does she get hot when she sleeps, or cold? Does she listen when you say no, or run the other way? Or do it again? For the record, she runs the other way giggling her head off! And as we learned the answers, she melted into the big pot of soup we call family. And we revel in how beautiful our family has come together, and how momentous 2015 really was. It’s amazing what a yearful of pictures can show you. Getting through the weekend. Over the ...

Our little bugs in the big blue room. A day without naps…. This week, the pre-school activities started: the lists, the shopping, the forms, the enrollment, the play dates. While the kids are almost as excited as we are, it’s bittersweet. As we watch them play, we wince when they fall or do something socially awkward. They spend so many hours away from us in the classroom and on the playground. Who are they when we’re not there? So bring on the school year! But when we know how many crazy things theyR...

Before & Afters. New Work: Green Teen Bus. Posted by Melissa Tatge. Last year, we were thrilled to be asked by a well-known local after school teen program to “decorate” the new school bus that had just been donated to their organization. The bus carries the students to various activities, including two gardens that they manage as well as local farmers’ markets that supply vegetables to underserved local communities. Of course we said “Yes! Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window). Kept us v...

Our little bugs in the big blue room. To celebrate, we took Tess and Stella over to watch Adam’s kids go nuts in the pond at mom’s house. These are never the most inspiring weekends, but it feels. To check stuff off and see a tidier house. The beauty of it is we get a bonus day tomorrow! Tonight’s menu is inspired by a pound of myriad overripe tomatoes: Mark Bittman’s Indian-style tomato sauce. And cinnamon apple cake. Officially sleeping through the night…this week. At the exact same time as our friends...

Our little bugs in the big blue room. We survived last night. Late driving, starving baby (apparently she loves to pound 2 bottles at 10 at night rather than half a bottle), tiny town – all of this makes for interesting ‘experiences’. Dave learned how important swaddling is. I asked him to take the early feeding, and he said no problem. Then Tess squirmed and whined for 4 hours. 4 hours! But alone – for the first time. And we weren’t freaking out! I think yesterday was the hardest day of this trip. W...

Our little bugs in the big blue room. California with four in tow. Last Friday, we loaded the kids and Elise into a plane and headed to LA to visit Amy, Lilou’s first mom. The travel was as awful as we expected it to be. Griff and Lilou are not happy on planes! BUT the house was perfect, with room for the kids to play inside and outside. The kitchen was fully stocked and a grocery store closeby made getting settled easier. And Amy’s as delightful as always! Despite our best efforts, the kids were tired a...

Our little bugs in the big blue room. So in the neverending unpredictability of our amazing life, we’d like to introduce our daughter, Leah. When we became Griffin’s parents, our hearts exploded with happiness. But we still feel the ache of the twins we lost. I don’t know how to describe it – Griffin is our angel baby and we adore every hair on his head. And yet we knew there was another kid coming. We finally admitted that to each other about two weeks ago. We told Joy, who exploded with laughter. A...
