CakeWalk: Daring Baker Challenge November 2010: Crostata
http://rcakewalk.blogspot.com/2010/11/daring-baker-challenge-november-2010.html
Saturday, November 27, 2010. Daring Baker Challenge November 2010: Crostata. The 2010 November Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Simona of briciole. She chose to challenge Daring Bakers’ to make pasta frolla for a crostata. She used her own experience as a source, as well as information from Pellegrino Artusi’s Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well. I've had quite a few sweets around lately, so the day I mixed up the dough I baked my first crostata using cranberry apple jam. I also love ...

CakeWalk: Review: Primo Preserves & Tapenade.
http://rcakewalk.blogspot.com/2015/08/review-primo-preserves-tapenade.html
Thursday, August 6, 2015. Review: Primo Preserves and Tapenade. Earlier this summer, I was invited to try some handmade preserves from PRiMO. I received the jars, and a charming handwritten note from the owner, and popped them into my china cupboard: excited to try them but waiting for just the right moment of inspiration to hit. I rarely purchase any jarred foods at all! 5 years ago. (5 years! Raspberry-Habanero Cream Cheese Tarts. 4 4 1/2 inch tarts). Pasta Frolla: ( Simona at briciole. 1/2 c minus 1 t...

CakeWalk: Jalapeños.
http://rcakewalk.blogspot.com/2010/08/jalapenos.html
Friday, August 20, 2010. It does seem like awhile since I've sat in the warm glow of the little netbook here. I was out of town, which for me usually translates to "at the farm". My Parents' place about 3 hours west of here is just about as perfect as a respite can be, a gracefully aging (and continually improving) farmhouse with plenty of acreage for a city bred Boy-O to cut his country chops. One peck of sliced peppers: 8 lbs of heat! The candied jalapenos I made last year. Don't let the canning stop y...

CakeWalk: More Cabbage? Genius.
http://rcakewalk.blogspot.com/2015/04/more-cabbage-genius.html
Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Mere moments after last weeks obsession with red cabbage slaw, I began reading a hard copy of Genius Recipes. I missed the Fergus Henderson Red Salad. April 29, 2015 at 6:41 PM. Im making this very soon. April 30, 2015 at 9:24 AM. I left out the capers only because I tasted it and liked it without. Ill make it with them next time. Strangely, still not tired of raw red cabbage! Communication is a good thing, most of the time. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My blog has moved!

CakeWalk: Peach Sriracha Butter.
http://rcakewalk.blogspot.com/2014/08/peach-sriracha-butter.html
Thursday, August 14, 2014. Food in Jars' Peach Sriracha Jam (Honey Sweetened Peach Chutney) I made last week. I got peaches at two different times, and split both with neighbors. (You can read about the first peach adventure here. Quickly enamored of the honey-sweetened peach chutney that Marisa McClellan posted on her site Food in Jars. Adapted from Marisa McClellan's recipe in Preserving by the Pint. Yields about 2 half pints. 1 c granulated sugar. Juice of 1 lime. 1/4 c Sriracha sauce. I just got fini...

CakeWalk: Diana Henry's Cucumber Yogurt Soup.
http://rcakewalk.blogspot.com/2015/07/diana-henrys-cucumber-yogurt-soup.html
Friday, July 10, 2015. Diana Henry's Cucumber Yogurt Soup. You might not believe that I've been meaning to write about this cold soup for more than a year. It's been about that long since I first read about it in Diana Henry's book A Change of Appetite. Last spring and summer I made it at least a dozen times, each time making it different and using the ingredients list as more of a suggestion. As written, it is fantastic. But it also is good using just about anything you have growing. Juice of 1/2 lemon.

CakeWalk: Food Update, Smoked Salmon & Ramp Tart.
http://rcakewalk.blogspot.com/2015/06/food-update-smoked-salmon-ramp-tart.html
Friday, June 5, 2015. Food Update, Smoked Salmon and Ramp Tart. Where does the time go? I feel as if I barely look at the Internet anymore, rarely read the blogs that I once read voraciously and with total vigor. I have slipped back into the old fashioned habit of cookbook reading from front to back (or did I never really abandon that notion? Devouring the written word the way God intended: inscribed into a tangible medium. Imported capers packed in salt that expired in 2011? I felt so out of the loop...

All posts by Julia Sforza. June 8, 2016. In the meantime, I wanted to check in once more, before I sink under the waves of summer. You can always see what I’m up to on Instagram. 8211;lately it’s been all about the strawberries in my garden, which are slowly giving up one or two last berries. I’m not too sad, because I’ll try to get at least one visit in to Thompson-Finch Farm. Before I go, I wanted to mention the new book from Marisa McClellan. Naturally Sweet Food in Jars,. So cheers, everyone! This ca...

NOTES FROM A NUEVA LATINA. June 7, 2016. I’m trying my hardest to keep on top of life but I fear it is a losing battle. The move while exciting is starting to overwhelm in ways I had not expected. Then on top of it all they expect me to feed them…like three times a day! Does it ever end? Other summertime salsas to try:. Prep Time: 10 minutes. Total Time: 10 minutes. Yield: 2 1/2 cups. Adapted from Better Homes and Gardens. Keep salsa covered in the fridge for up to 1 week. 1/2 cup chopped white onion.
