Reems Creek Chronicles

Thursday, August 13, 2015. Last year we started on a project to redecorate the house. That project has only a few final touches to go, and this quilt for the guest room is one of them. To go with a deeper color paint, I made a white silk-cotton blend whole cloth (Robert Kaufman Radiance - pieced to make it cover a queen-size mattress). For the center of the quilt, I used an applique design from Kitty Pippen's Asian Elegance: Quilting with Japanese Fabrics and More. Once I had the center quilted, I did tw...

Reems Creek Chronicles: June 2015

http://www.rcquilting.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2015. On June 9th, about two weeks after the Grand Review of the Armies, Billy and John were mustered out of service. Both went back to their homes and families near Hayden, Indiana. Billy Whitcomb dresser at the Hayden museum. Billy Whitcomb bed, nightstand, and mirror at the Hayden museum. There is no photo of John in uniform, nor are there any of his soldier letters. As we understand it, John wanted to forget the war. Earliest picture I have of John. Heres to you old pals. When John ...

Reems Creek Chronicles: The Greenest Quilt ever

http://www.rcquilting.blogspot.com/2012/03/greenest-quilt-ever.html

Tuesday, March 13, 2012. The Greenest Quilt ever. This quilt is an international cooperation. It's a new quilt for Dorry's son Casey. Casey's aunt Kerry - Dorry's sister - made the top, choosing fabrics to remind Casey of his New Zealand heritage. New Zealand landscapes are known for their beautiful intense greens, and green is Casey's favorite color. The photos were lit to show the quilting and so some of the non-green seems to be highlighted by the camera. Trust me, this quilt is Green Green Green!

Reems Creek Chronicles: March 2015

http://www.rcquilting.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 29, 2015. I love quilting a scrappy quilt! It's so much fun to see all the fabrics and how the varied prints combine. Friday, March 27, 2015. Dorry suggested posing the TV stand propped up to give more of the idea of the scale for some new photos. It was far easier to turn it sideways - for the purpose, since there are no features to this cabinet like drawers and handles, one way is as good as another. And the height is very close to that of the mattress this way. Tuesday, March 24, 2015.

Reems Creek Chronicles: July 2015

http://www.rcquilting.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 30, 2015. Eli has been serving in Alabama waiting for orders to go home. My July block is a variation of the Alabama block. This version is easier to piece in the 8 inch size I've been using. Our sun is so bright today the colors are washed out in my photo. Saturday, July 25, 2015. My grandmothers and great grandmothers left us a lot of crocheted and tatted lace. I've found I enjoy knitting lace, done with a slightly thicker thread and needles. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Cheryl and Norris' Blog. Tuesday, December 2, 2014. A long time - but not forever. Last week we hiked up to the top of the ridge on our property and looked for the fallen chestnut - this photo shows how it looked in November, 2009 -. But several years later, it no longer looks like an inviting bench -. But by the time they reach reproductive age, they will have it. The good news is the American Chestnut Foundation. June 10, 2014. January 23, 2016. The Recovery Cloak with woven back panel. When I began to reawaken from my Guillain Barre. Induced winter’s nap, people asked what I thought the experience would mean for my life, and for my art. One of the first things I realized was that I felt enveloped with healing thoughts and good wishes from all the people who sent me cards. And I believe they made me get better, faster. Some were from people I didn’t even know! In March at FTWG. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are...

Cheryl and Norris' Blog: A new visitor

http://cherylandnorris.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-new-visitor.html

Cheryl and Norris' Blog. Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Today we were surprised to see a new visitor on our hummingbird feeders - (sorry about the screen). The hummer on the right was also surprised at having to compete with a Swallowtail. Love to watch them! July 29, 2015 at 11:07 PM. Well, thats an interesting sight! My Joe Pye Weed is getting ready to bloom, so I anticipate many swallowtails any week now. July 30, 2015 at 6:46 AM. This comment has been removed by the author. July 30, 2015 at 6:47 AM.

Cheryl and Norris' Blog. Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Williamsburg for an October Celebration. Back on October 4th, Cheryl and three of her four siblings found themselves in Williamsburg with some time to spare, so we went to the Yorktown Battlefield National Park and heard the story of the final major encounter of the American Revolution. Brother Jeff qualified for the Golden Eagle pass and we all got to enjoy the walking tour given by our young guide who brought the field to life for us. We also drove ...

http://cherylandnorris.blogspot.com/2015/03/hawks-landing-fire-continued.html

Cheryl and Norris' Blog. Monday, March 30, 2015. Hawks Landing Fire - continued. This photo shows a crew from the Reems Creek FD assisting a Forest Service bulldozer in getting to the top of the mountain above our house. Although the dozer can knock over smaller trees in its path, the Reems Creek crew assisted by chainsawing down the larger trees that were in the way. After getting to the top of the mountain, the dozer plowed a firebreak trench across the top of the fire and then down the right hand flank.

Cheryl and Norris' Blog. Sunday, November 30, 2014. Supporting a firefighter's funeral. A mobile tower was erected to set up a radio repeater site, and satellite communications were established for telephone and data services in an area where there was no cell service and very little coverage from the NC Statewide Radio system. The funeral service was conducted on Saturday without any significant communications problems. There were at least 45 fire vehicles in the procession. Labels: Fire and Rescue.

Live Music is Best. Why go without it? My name is Robert Côté, I’ve been involved in music from an early age, my musical background created an interest strong enough to pursue schooling. At the beginning of my career, my first influences were certainly the Beatles, then came Django Reinhardt followed by George Benson and everyone in between, but most important and without a doubt, being around professional musicians helped me develop my own identity.
