River City and Western Railroad. The River City and Western Railroad is a free-lance bridge railroad set in the late 1950ï s ï early ï 60ï s connecting Midwestern to Western locales beyond the railroad. The main yard, River City, is a division point between the East (Chicago) staging yard and the West (Los Angeles) staging yard. At the other end, a double track 2.5% helix connects the two staging yards, allowing trains to return to their starting positions for scheduled operation. This clearly applies to scheduled passenger trains. Code 100 Atlas Flextrack is used throughout, as are Peco switches except for older Atlas No. 8 switches from the 50's, used on mainline passing tracks. The RCW is powered by an Easy-DCC system with both radio and tethered throttles. There are seven power districts. The system has been upgraded over the years so that four digit addressing is standard. DecoderPro is also used to program locomotives and help in speed matching.
