What Are You Reading? | Imagine the Possibilities
https://imaginethepossibilitiesblog.wordpress.com/2016/09/06/what-are-you-reading
Living in a Changing World. Sometimes Things Don’t Go As Planned →. What Are You Reading? September 6, 2016. Last week I was sitting in the waiting area at my hair salon with a young girl and her mother. The girl had a book with her and I was straining to see the title. Before I could invade their space completely, a conversation started. Me: Sorry, but I’m interested in knowing what you are reading. Me: Oh, Sharon Creech! I love her work. What are you reading? I actually just finished Barbara O’Connor’s.

Reading, Writing and Learning. Reflections on life in and beyond the classroom. She Came by Train. December 27, 2016. I arrived five minutes early to meet her train that ended up pulling into the station thirty minutes late. I didn’t mind the wait. It was quiet in my car. I caught up on email and read my book. It felt good to slow down. Where was my mom, I wondered? My mom was in the cart. With old people. She looked tired and small. She smiled a small smile. I held her hand and walked alongs...She stepp...

To Read To Write To Be. Thoughts on learning and teaching. Slice of Life: Valuing Soft Skills. January 10, 2017. January 10, 2017. The rain had just let up. Outside was off limits. The first day back, after three weeks without their friends, you can imagine the crazy. After settling, a little, I asked students if they noticed any changes in the room. 8220;Ah… Yeah… Like a lot.”. 8220;Oh, yeah you mean we have to work on taking notes and meeting our reading goals,” I heard Trevor* say. 8221; Or “Ask...

Reflections on my life as a teacher. We All Saw a Cat. Sol- December 6, 2016. It is that most wonderous time of year! No, not the days after report cards are finished and everyone can feel an upcoming break in the air, but time for the annual Mock Caldecott! This might be my fourth year doing this and it just gets better and better each year. I will admit that I rely heavily on John Schumaker and Colby Sharp’s list. Today we read They All Saw a Cat. Reflections on my life as a teacher. Managed Expectations Good Friend Great Luck = Just What I Needed. Sol December 13, 2016. Where you can see them. As we planned the trip any time Linnea was feeling ready for a break she would send me this picture:. We arrived mid-day Saturday and Sunday morning headed to the reserve. The taxi driver told us about a recent customer who had been there a few times and had not seen any orangutans. That was NOT part of our plan! We waited in the heat and shhed countless no...

Reflections on my life as a teacher. Home Is Where the Heart Is. Sol December 20, 2016. My younger son is coming to see me over Christmas and I am sooooo excited. That is a distance of 9515 miles (15313km) or 3 planes. He only gets a very limited number of days off a year and he wants to spend most of them with me- I am honored! He is a planner, so he booked the trip long ago. The day he leaves I will board another plane to visit my older son in Korea for a few days and have another Christmas with him...

Checking In | Ms. Victor Reads
https://msvictorreads.wordpress.com/2017/01/10/checking-in
Reflections on my life as a teacher. Sol17- January 10, 2017. Yikes, I missed the first slicing date of 2017, so sad, but wifi was an impossibility where I was, so…. On the 3rd I was set to have an adventure at the Hwaseong Fortress. As I walked I kept an eye out for a place to eat- I had not had anything yet. Eventually, I found a sweet looking coffee shop and managed to order tea and spend a cozy half hour writing, but left still hungry. She responded, “Mumbledy, mumbledy kimbap? It turns out my sense ...

Empty Nesting Lite | Reading, Writing and Learning
https://lisakeelerblog.wordpress.com/2016/10/25/empty-nesting-lite
Reading, Writing and Learning. Reflections on life in and beyond the classroom. October 25, 2016. October 25, 2016. 8220;It’s empty nesting lite,” I tell people, half apologetically, and with only thinly disguised delight. I try to keep my smile this side of an all out grin. But, it’s true. When you have a child who attends a university just 15 minutes from home, it is empty nesting lite. I had no idea what to expect, other than deafening silence at home. I made a few ground rules for myself:. And…...
